Cassandra's POV
Just my luck huh? Of course the stranger had to be Daniel. I am convinced that the world truly hates me.
"Hi Cassandra. Long time no see." Daniel said smiling. Maybe the world doesn't hate me entirely. Mike had run to the bathroom. Right before Daniel realized it was me actually.
"You two have met?" Chris stares at me. As soon as those words left Chris's mouth, Mike walked out, with a rather angry look on his face. Oh no. Did he hear us?
"When did you meet Cassandra, Daniel?" Mike asked as he glared at me sitting down. Fear. It was all I felt. It was paralyzing. I couldn't move or talk. I swear if you really looked at my eyes, you could see my fear.
"Just briefly actually. It was when I came back from my walk. I passed by her upstairs as I was trying to find the bathroom." It took me a few minutes to register what Daniel had said. Why is he lying?
"Uh yeah, I was coming back from using the bathroom upstairs and he needed help finding it." My whole body was heating up, my face was getting red, and that only happens when my anxiety is at an all time high. I looked over at Mike and he looked as if he bought that whole lie. I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
"Well I hope she wasn't too much of a burden for you." Mike let out a small yet deep laugh under his breath. Leave it to him to make me feel worthless with such a small combination of words. Burden. That's all I will ever be to anyone.
The rest of the dinner, I was pretty quiet. The guys were going on about all different kinds of stuff. I was too upset to really pay attention to what they were saying honestly. I barely even ate actually. I played with my food mostly. When I'm upset I just don't feel like eating, so I don't.. I get yelled at later for 'wasting his food.' But right now I was honestly too upset to care. I'm use to it anyway. He'll yell and hit me a few times and then go to sleep. Maybe I deserve it sometimes for being so useless.
"Earth to Cass. Aren't you gonna eat?" Chris spoke loudly, breaking me from my thoughts. I look up at him, slightly distracted.
"What did you say?" I looked at him, and immediately my anger became higher. I looked away from him before flipping out. I tried to calm myself down by taking deep breaths.
"I said, aren't you gonna eat?" Chris responds quietly. I think he realized my anger towards him was rising. I don't feel bad for being angry at him. I don't feel bad for hating him honestly.
"I'm just not hungry." I grabbed my plate and stormed off to the kitchen and scraped what was left into the trash. What a mistake that was..
"Wasting my food again? Haven't you learned your lesson you ungrateful brat." I wanted to scream as I saw him walking closer to me. It was useless to move, he was quicker than me and always caught me. I stood there and stared at him, waiting for my punishment. He got close to me and grabbed my arm harshly, making me drop the plate I was holding. Before I could yank my arm away, he took his cigarette he had in his mouth and pressed the lit end against my skin until it was fully put out. I couldn't help but yelp and try to back away, only to step on the broken glass on the floor, only leading to letting out another yelp. "Just wait until Chris has to run out for something, there will be more." Mike says before throwing my arm away and walking back into the dining room. I couldn't help but fall to the floor, only landing on the broken glass, leaving small cuts on my leg, even leaving some broken pieces in my skin.
"What was that sound we heard?" I heard quiet voices talking in the other room. I didn't know who was talking until I heard Mike's disgusting voice.
"Cassandra dropped her plate as she was trying to wash it. Nothing to worry about, it was just a little accident." I cried at the sound of his voice. Just a little accident huh? I didn't give myself much time to be upset before quickly cleaning up the broken glass. It hurt to move my leg with the pieces stuck in my skin. I had to clean up this mess before Mike came back in or else it would result in a bigger punishment.
After successfully cleaning up the broken glass, I limped back into the dining room only to see they all moved to the living room. I just wanted to go to my room but I couldn't risk raising any suspicion. I continued limping over to the sectional we had and took the seat farthest away from anyone. I looked around the room and saw Daniel staring at me curiously. I quickly turned my attention to the movie that was playing.
"Are you okay? I saw you limping Cass." I heard Chris ask. I didn't even look at him. I stared at the television.
"I just stepped on a piece of the broken plate, but I'm fine." Little did they know, my thigh was still bleeding and I was still in pain. Thankfully I wore dark pants so you couldn't see the blood. I started to become sleepy, so I said goodnight and slowly walked up the stairs, hissing in pain with each step until I reached the bathroom up here. I have to clean my leg and wrap it up or something. If I get blood on my bed sheets, I'm in even more trouble.
I sat on the toilet slightly dabbing the cuts on my leg with a cotton ball full of peroxide, hissing at each touch. I was so focused on dressing my wounds, I didn't even realize the door was left unlocked until I heard it open. I couldn't get up quick enough to close it.
"Cassandra, are you alright?" Daniel asked as he walked in, leaving the door open behind him. I quickly pulled up my pants, grabbed the wraps and ran to my room, ignoring the pain I was feeling. What if he saw my cuts? Who am I kidding, he definitely saw my cuts. I am in so much trouble. What am I going to do? Mike is going to flip out even more. He is going to hurt me so much more when he finds out. I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't even realize that Daniel followed me...
