Chapter 1: Just A Boring Old Field Trip

Again.

I'm stuck on this stupid school bus AGAIN! I groaned and Amelia glanced at me. "Lin, we both know it's not that big a deal," Amelia clarified. "It's just a field trip."

"Yeah, it's not like it's the sixth one we've had this year!" I shouted. Amelia rolled her eyes at me, like she always does. But then she gasped and lowered her head. I looked up and saw the annoying Abram, a guy that likes to bug me a ton.

"Well, well, well, if it little Rosaline or should I say, "Bossaline"!" Abram laughed at his own bad joke.

"Oh, go away "Annoybram"." I glared and slapped his face. He whined and leaned back into his seat. I smirked to myself and high-fived Amelia's hand. The bus speaker squealed and it didn't very good to everyone's ears.

"Everyone, I hope you're as excited as I am! The overnight week stay for Juniors at this particular funhouse was a joy for me when I was just your age," Principal Newton bubbled into the speaker. "But remember, you must stay with your assigned groups at all times. If you don't, getting lost in there isn't the best idea EVER."

I just rolled my eyes and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I opened up Instagram and looked through the new posts from my friends and family. Amelia was just staring at out the window, waiting to see when we get there. Of my two best friends, Amelia is the more curious and eager of the two. Madison's more of a laid back, know-it-all type. Poor Madison's stuck with Snotty Skylar, because only two people were allowed to be at each seat.

The next post that pulls up is one my ex-boyfriend had posted.........and it was about me. We have been broken up for a year now, and he's still not over me. Are you kidding me?! His name is Peter and I don't remember what I saw in him. I grunted and shut my phone off.

"Rosaline! Look out the window!" Amelia blurted, excitedly pointing at the window. I looked through it and I saw that we had arrived at our destination.

"Everyone, welcome to the Enchanted House of Fun!" Principal Newton shouted into the speaker. My classmates reactions were mixed: they were either in awe or just didn't really care. The didn't care reaction included me, I've never really cared for these field trips, even though we were staying for a week. Man, Principal Newton's weird.

"Question?" Annabelle raised her hand. "Why is it called the Enchanted House of Fun?"

Principal Newton didn't answer and just told us to get our things out from the truck that the vice principal had drove behind us. Amelia and I agreed that it was weird that Newton just ignored the question, but we just shrugged it off. Our group assignments were all taped to our bags and as I read mine, I just kicked my suitcase. I was in a group with Claire, Skylar, Libbie, Kennedy, and Gabrielle. Gabrielle and Kennedy were cool but the other three, oh boy.

Claire and I used to be friends when we were in the 2nd grade but when we got to middle school, she met Skylar and Libbie, and our friendship was totally destroyed. But luckily, I met Madison and Amelia not that long after. Sure, I miss Claire and my friendship sometimes, but we're both over it so who cares right?!

Anyways, I walked over to Gabrielle and Kennedy, after I said good-bye to Madison and Amelia, and things went over awkwardly. I did know them, I was partners with them for Science and English, but we never hung out socially. But they let me join them when we all walked inside. A woman eagerly greeted us at the door.

"Hello students of North East High! My name is Sirena and I'm the manager plus your guide to knowing your way around the Enchanted House of Fun!" Sirena exclaimed happily with a wink. I looked her up and down and something just didn't seem right about her but I didn't know what.

Sirena assigned every group to their own guide and my group had Sirena as our guide. Yay

Travelling behind my group, I looked around at the rides and games they had around here and something seemed off about them. The merry-go-round's animals looked....alive and Sirena seemed to be wearing a seaweed and seashell look. Odd.

Sirena does seem like your really happy, cheesy kind of person which isn't a total bad thing, but it's just so predictable.

"And this is where you'll be sleeping and staying when you just need some space. But I'm sure your principal warned you not to wander off on your own, it's not the best idea nor is it the worst. Give me a holler if you need me." Sirena left us at a spot somewhere in the funhouse and all of us dropped our stuff. I rolled out my sleeping bag and fluffed my pillow. I heard Claire, Skylar, and Libbie giggling while laying down their own stuff. With a sigh, I stare up at the ceiling and see memories.

Literally.

The ceiling shows memories from throughout my life and some of them were good while other ones not so good. I saw the time my dad left when I was 3 and the time my mom and sisters threw a surprise party when I turned 14 years old. Even without a dad, I still manage to have fun while being depressed at the same time. When I looked away from the ceiling, it stop showing memories.

"Hey Rosaline, you doing okay?" Kennedy asked. I shrugged and stood up. "Where're you going?"

I turned back to her and exclaimed confidently. "There's something strange about this place and I'm going to find out what." Right as I started walking, something sparkled that caught my eye. I walked over to where the sparkle was found. It was a pool, inside a funhouse? I stuck my hand into the pool and swirled the chlorinated water with it. Kennedy and Gabrielle walked up from behind me and their eyes became wide.

"A pool?! Inside a funhouse!" Gabrielle gasped. "You're right, Rosaline. There IS something strange about this place."

But what made it so strange was the question?
