Prologue

Melech:

"Hey Franny," I said seductively in the female's ear. I cringed, and yet whispered her name once more. I had strong distaste in women who have names starting with "F" and it was very challenging to utter even one syllable of that awful name.

"Oh, Max, you're so cute," she giggled while gripping my shoulders. I winced at her fake manicured nails, and eased my shoulders out from her hand trap.

"Franny, I have to tell you something...." I whispered in her ear. I felt her nod against my head.

I was silent for a moment, until she spoke, "What is it Max?"

"You are going to die in two minutes and 34 seconds."

"What?" she drew back, and gazed into my eyes with a mix of innocence and stupidity.

"You heard what I said."

"What are you going to do?" she asked while I clutched my hands with more force than a normal man.

"I, my dear, am going to kill you."

And with that, I slammed her into the wall, and sliced her neck open with my hidden knife from my back pocket. I leered at the blood dripping from her neck staining her clothes, and plummeting to the pavement. She let out a gasp which brought me back to the present. I smirked at her wide eyes and counted inside my head.

I watched as her head went limp along with her body and the blood continuously to spill from the neck wound. I licked my lips, and while I was waiting, began to draw a pattern on her hand with my knife. Blood is not exactly filling if drank right when the victim dies, so I waited patiently for ten minutes.

I paused and cautiously looked around at my surroundings. Middle of the alley, one in the morning, and pitch black equals no witnesses.

I dismissed the thought that I'd ever get caught, and contemplated how much blood I should save for emergencies. I shook my head, and crouched down on the ground to get a better angle at her neck. I held her in my arms and began to suck on the cut I made with my knife.

After I was done, I searched through her purse and located her phone. I sent a short text to both her mother and father that she was alright, and was going away at a friend’s house for a week. I knew instantly as I pressed "Send" that it was an inadequate excuse to go missing. I shrugged. I was not to blame of her poor choices in men.

I quickly grabbed her body, and crouched down behind the dumpsters in the alley. I couldn't risk being caught. The police had been on my trail the week before, and a month ago, one of my men was carelessly feeding while a photographer was taking pictures. They had thought he was doing a gory movie with all the blood dripping from the woman he held, but the photographer quickly realized this was reality; not filming a typical sappy vampire show.

I then slowly held a special vile towards the young woman's neck, and grinned when the blood started flowing smoothly into the vile for storage purposes. I couldn't let all this delicacy go to waste.

I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, and hastily wiped my hands on the girl's clothing and answered it.

"Yes?"

"Melech, something's on the news. Hurry back," a voice said worriedly.

"Coming. As soon as I clean this up," I muttered while looking at the dead corpse.

"You better hurry," the voice warned.

"Fine fine. I'll get someone else to do it," I grumbled and hung up. I clicked a familiar speed-dial and said, "You around town?"

The other line replied yes.

"Alright, clean up this mess in 15 minutes. I have somewhere to go." I hung up once more, and bent down to retrieve my stuff. I started walking away but paused, forgetting something. I turned to the dead girl and spoke.

"Honey, remember what your mother always told you? Don't accept candy from strangers," I said while looking at the crumbled wrapper sticking out from her purse.
