As you guys know, I love the show Game of Thrones. So, I decided to do a little story involving the Red Wedding, which was an event that happened in season 3 of GoT. I really recommend you don't go on Youtube and watch the next part of the Red Wedding. It gets pretty... dark. Like, a pregnant woman gets stabbed multiple times in her womb. That was the one part of the wedding which really disturbed me. In fact, the Red Wedding is one of the most infamous scenes from Game of Thrones. Anyways, Damian is Edmure Tully, and Mar'i is Roslin Frey. If you are confused by any of the Game of Thrones vocabulary, just leave a comment, and I can tell you what it means.
The video above (which I do not own) is the first part of the Red Wedding. The ceremony. Nothing gory or violent really happens. Yet.
Seven hells, I think to myself as I scowl. As many unpleasant thoughts I can imagine of revenge on my father in my head right now, there is nothing I can do to stop this wedding. Standing at the sept's altar, this is the point of no return.
The war between House Wayne and House al Ghul was not in the Waynes' favor at the current time. We may have won every battle, but we were losing this war. Our supplies were decreasing by the day, while the al Ghuls continued to plot the downfall of our House.
We had only 18,000 men in our army, while House al Ghul had nearly 40,000. Including the numbers, we lacked the supplies to keep our army going. We had enough armor and weaponry , but we were lacking medical and food supplies. Once winter arrived, we would be hungry and sick in the snow. Thus, father decided to make an alliance with House Grayson. Father was old friends with the head of House Grayson, Lord Richard Grayson. Lord Richard had been a ward of father when he was a boy. They have been loyal friends ever since.
Since they were loyal friends, father knew that he could rely on the Graysons' support. House Grayson did not like the al Ghuls anymore than the Waynes do. However, this was not just any war alliance. This was a marriage alliance.
I am a bastard. Born from one of my father's previous affairs. My father is Lord Bruce Wayne, the head of House Wayne, whom I am loyal to. And my mother is Lady Talia al Ghul, the head of House al Ghul. Before, their houses had been mutual allies. Now, they were sworn enemies.
I had been born one and twenty years ago, when our houses were at a time of peace. My mother had raised me for the first ten years of my life. without my father's knowledge. Then, I had met my father for the first time, and was given a choice. I could either go with him, or stay with my mother. I left with him. Life at House al Ghul had not been very pleasant.
Even thought I was a bastard, I was the only trueborn son of my father. His current wife, Lady Selina Kyle, had not produced him any offspring. She had no interest in motherhood. And his other so-called sons, were adoptees. Jason and Tim. They could not inherit the lands and titles of House Wayne. So, father legitimized my status as a bastard and made me his heir. For that, I would forever be in his debt.
However, being his heir also had a downside. Since I would be the future head of House Wayne, all of the head's responsibilities were passed down to me as well. These responsibilities included having a wife.
Thus, when Lord Richard offered a marriage alliance between our houses, father had agreed to the terms. I was betrothed to Lord Richard's only child, and heir. His daughter, Mar'i Grayson.
I had not been very pleased with father about being forced into a marriage I did not want. I still am not happy about it. But father would not except any argument from me. You have a duty to this house Damian, and you will carry it out now matter how you feel about it! That is what he said to me only a few days ago when we argued about the wedding.
Jason and Tim found the wedding rather amusing. The demon-spawn groom, they called me. Imbeciles. I had never liked them. They acted so entitled, even though father had only adopted those insufferable lowborns out of pity. The only reason I had not stabbed them yet was because father had forbade it.
I had no intention of being married. In the future, I may have had a wife, due to the fact that I would need heirs to further the lineage of House Wayne. However, I had no interest in marriage at the current time, as I had never been interested in a romance. Least of all, wed and bed a complete stranger.
I had never met Lord Grayson's daughter, Mar'i. I knew nothing about her. The only fact I knew of her was her age. She was 19 years old, two years younger than I, and still a maiden.
At all wedding nights, the husband and wife were expected to consummate their marriages. There was even the optional bedding ceremony to support evidence of consummation. The wedding guests would carry the couple to their marriage bed, and stand outside the door, listening to the couple consummate while shouting out ribald suggestions to them. A very bawdy, yet popular tradition that I rather disliked. Husbands and wives should have the right of privacy during their weddings. The choice to consummate was their own to make. I was rather unwilling to break the maidenhead of a girl I had never met. Unfortunately, father had insisted our marriage be consummated, as unconsummated marriages could be set aside. And House Wayne needed this alliance.
Standing at the altar, I waited with the septon for my future bride to arrive. The sept had been filled with guests for the wedding. Father, Lady Selina, and Lord Grayson's wife Lady Kory were at the front of the crowd. Father's eyes meet mine for a brief moment. You will do your duty Damian, his eyes seem to say.
Then, Lord Grayson and and his daughter's figures fill the sept's doorway. All of the guests the in the sept rise for them. They walk down the aisle towards the altar, where the septon and I am. Mar'i's face is covered with a silvery veil, preventing me from seeing her face. Even though she is clutching her father's arm, she walks quite gracefully. However, appearances can be deceiving. I continue to scowl.
They reach the altar.
