The moving truck could be heard from a mile away, the metal clanging and clacking all up the street as it pulled into the driveway right beside Suri's own. She watched from out the window, her arctic eyes filled with curiosity. Vernon,California hadn't had any new residents since her mother,Venus, had moved there several years before her birth. Coming from the truck, a man about her mother's age and boy around her own stepped out onto the icy pavement. They were obviously related, although not in the most subtle ways. Very few of their facial features looked the same, but more of their mannerism. They walked the same and definitely scowled the same. The son seemed to not want to be here, his movements hard and tight. He had a strange aura around him, it wasn't exactly blue nor purple, but just filled with swirls of both. She had never seen one like that before and it definitely peaked her interest even more.
"Are you spying on the new neighbors?" Venus's gentle voice said behind her, causing her daughter to jump in surprise.
"I prefer the term observing," she replied and they both gave a soft laugh. Her mother looked out the window as well. "I wonder why they moved here."
"I don't know. Maybe we should find out. How about we invite them over for tea and a card reading?" Suri looked over at her mother. They definitely resembled each other physically. They had the same wavy brown hair and heart shaped face. Although, Venus's eyes were a deep, forest green and Suri had a larger bust than her, much to her despair. Suri hated anything that drew attention to herself.
"If you insist. You're so nosy, mom."
"Me? You were the one stalking."
" Observing." She corrected
"If you say so,little one."

After almost fifteen minutes of the Porter men being in her home, Suri could say that these two were the most suspicious men she had ever met. They claimed to be non-believers in card reading, yet their auras showed eagerness and wonder. Suri had to do all she could to keep from laughing, especially since she had never felt Gabriel's eyes leave her since they had arrived. Suri sat down beside her mother as Venus spread the cards across the table in one swoop and told Scott to pick three cards.
"These three will represent your past, your present, and your future." Suri explained.
"How can the cards possibly know that?"
"They don't. It's your own connection with them that tells us." The man rolled his eyes and Suri wanted to smack him. His ignorance was starting to grate on her nerves.
"Gabriel, why don't you do the reading?" Scott suggested to his son.
"Okay," he mumbled and slid his chair toward the middle of the table. His fingers skimmed over the deck.
"So whichever card I have the most attraction to?" He questioned and the Fair women nodded. He slid out three. Venus flipped over the first.
"The Hermit. You were isolated in your past and you needed to connect." Suri said. Venus flipped over the next one.
"The Empress. You currently need to become in touch with your feminine side and prioritize your passions." Gabriel raised an eyebrow and she felt her heart flutter. Then finally the last one.
"The Lovers. It's pretty self explanatory. You will find love and a relationship in your future."
Gabriel scoffed "I highly doubt that."
"Why doubt?" Venus questioned
"I haven't been able to find anyone who suits me before, why would I here where there's less than 100 girls even close to my age?"
"Fate works in mysterious ways." was all she responded with. Suri's mother was known to do that. Just say little riddle-like phrase and give no more information on the subject. Whether she really meant it or just wanted to act mystical was unclear. Or as mystical as she could without giving away what they were.
