So I work where we have 3 children's camps a summer. To help separate the masses we separate them into color groups; red, blue, green, etc. But the color that will always stick out to me the most is the orange team because of one specific kid, and he forever will haunt me with his persistence.
The schedule we had out each day was based on the aforementioned color groups and it seemed pretty easy to follow for us at least. From 1:00 to 2:30 red team, blue team, and green team get to swim and from 3:00 to 4:30 yellow team, orang team, and purple team get to swim. Easy right? Not for eveyone.
I'm a life guard at the facility that I work for so I had to typically handle most of the questions since people saw me the most. This one kid, probably 2nd or 3rd grade, walks up to my life guard stand and asks me, "Where am I supposed to be right now?" Now mind you I'm at the lifeguard stand and don't have a schedule on me, so I tell him, "Sorry, Bud. I have now idea where you are supposed to be." With missing a beat he comes back and says, "But I'm Orange." I said to him again, "I don't have a schedule on me right now or else I would tell you, man." He looks at me now with the most confused look, as if I'm speaking another language. So again, slower this time so that I could understand him better, he says, "But I'm Ooooooraaaange." I told him I knew he was orange based on his wrist band, but he did this two more times to me and I finally asked him where his counselor is in which he replied, "How should I know?" I finally just tell him to go to the Activity Building and he said nothing more and ran off.
So for the rest of that summer and onward whenever myself or the staff didn't recieve the answer we wanted we simply replied, "But I'm Orange" until we got the answer we wanted or were told to go away. Camp is always fun, it's just better when you get inside jokes from something as simple as a confused kid.
