The potions classroom was in such close proximity to the Slytherin common room that you always seemed to find yourself arriving at the exact same time as Draco. When you entered the classroom it was just you, Draco, a few Slytherins, and one Gryffindor. You sat down at your seat next to Draco.
There were a few moments where the entire room was silent and you could read your book in peace. That was until Draco leaned in and whispered something in your ear.
"You know, Slughorn hasn't arrived yet and there's barely anyone here. We could slip out now and have some real fun." As he sat back down in his seat, he winked at you.
You rolled your eyes. "I was only kidding. If we skipped this class how else would I prove to you that I was better at potions than you," he chuckled. You continued to ignore him.
The rest of the class began to flood in and when everyone was there, Slughorn shut the door. He was giving a lecture on how to brew a simple Shrinking Solution. You listened intently and even took notes. Draco on the other hand was too busy staring at you. He didn't understand how anyone could pay attention with you in the room. You were beautiful.
"That's everything. Turn to page 57 and follow the instructions carefully but do not forget the additional instructions I've given you." With those final words everyone stopped listening to the professor, grabbed the ingredients they needed, and started chatting about other things.
Draco started telling this story about a trip he took to France during his childhood, only looking down at his book every so often.
"Oh yeah and there was this muggle that we met on top of the Eiffel tower and he gave us one look and said..." Draco went on and on.
"Draco, sorry to interrupt but are you sure you're doing that right." You motioned towards his cauldron.
He looked down. "Of course I am." He carelessly dropped four leeches in. Instantly, the mixture started bubbling.
"Um.. Draco I reckon you've done something wrong."
He leaned in to get a better look at the contents of his cauldron. The potions let off a puff of gray smoke right on Draco's face. He started coughing and put his cauldron on his desk.
"Merlin! That smells like rotten eggs," he said between coughs.
"Are you alright Draco?!" Draco laughed at your concern.
"Aww, are you worried? I'm fine, (Y/N). Just smell now. I'll change before next hour and I'll be alright." He poured out his potion. When he got back he continued his story but you couldn't help but worry that the potion had done something.
The bell rang and everyone rushed out of the classroom. You followed Draco back to his dorm, watching him carefully the whole way.
When you finally arrived, you gave him one more look which made him laugh.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, im-," he stopped suddenly. His hand swiftly went to his heart and he began to grasp his rodes tightly. He breathed in and out heavily.
"Draco!" You grabbed his shoulder. He looked in your eyes, his face displaying a look of pure pain. Then his face twisted into a smile and he began to laugh.
"Kidding," he laughed. You frowned and punched him in the arm.
"Just hurry up, if you're late for next hour I am definitely not covering for you."
For the rest of the day Draco seemed himself. He made bad jokes, insulted people, and showed off in all his classes. By the time you parted ways, you didn't even remember what had happened in Potions.
When Draco woke up the next morning his dorm was completely empty. He stretched out in his bed and looked at his watch. 7:49. He jumped out of bed and darted around the room. This couldn't be right! How had he missed the alarm?
He made vain attempts to get dressed and do his hair. When he was ready to leave he found you lurking in his doorway.
"Where have you been," you asked.
"Missed alarm, running late, we've got to go."
"Draco, you can't go anywhere looking like that. Your hairs a mess, your buttons are all wrong, your ties barely done, and I'm pretty sure your shoes are on the wrong foot."
"No time," he shouted.
He spent the first half of Potions fixing his clothes.
"Here, I'll do your hair." You flattened his light blonde hair that was sticking up at odd angles. Your hand lingered there, intertwined in his strands of hair. You awkwardly removed your hands and looked away.
"Thanks," he muttered. You just nodded. There were a couple times when he made an attempt to answer a question but he got it wrong every time. He absolutely ruined two potions and spilled a third all over the floor. You got down to help him clean.
"I thought you were supposed to be better at Potions than me," you noted.
"So did I," he huffed.
The rest of the day was full of him making the most embarrassing mistakes. In Transfiguration, he gave himself a tail. In Herbology, he tripped over the root of a plant and face planted on the dirt. The amount of times he tripped on the stairs was countless.
After he nearly broke his nose while rounding a corner, he stormed off down a random corridor.
"Draco, wait!" You called after him.
He quickly turned to face you. "What is going on with me today, I just don't understand," he shouted.
"I don't either..." Suddenly, you realized the cause of Draco's sudden bad luck. "Unless, it's the potion from yesterday."
"You're right! You have to be, let's go talk to Slughorn." Draco darted towards the dungeons only falling three times.
He knocked on the door and Slughorn yelled, "Come in!" You and Draco entered the classroom quickly.
"Oh, Mr. Malfoy and Ms. (Y/L/N), how can I help you?" Draco told him everything that happened today and what he had done with the potion.
"So, Mr. Malfoy, when I was giving instructions were you paying attention," Slughorn asked.
"Well, not exactly but I followed the instructions in the book very well."
"If you'd been listening to me, you'd know that I've changed some of the instructions. The good thing is there is a cure, the bad thing is that I won't be giving it to you today."
"What? You can't do that," Draco yelled.
"I most certainly can. If you choose not to pay attention in my class then there will be serious punishments. This should wear off by tomorrow morning, until then be very careful."
You both left the room and Draco was absolutely fuming. "That is absolutely rubbish! Who does he think he is? I always knew he was a rubbish teacher. Why are you laughing?"
You laughed at him. "You deserve this, you should have been paying attention." He frowned at you. "Okay. Okay. How about this, I'll stay in your dorm until curfew and everything will be alright."
Draco spent a large part of the night sulking in between bad jokes. You conjured some music from your wand but every time Draco tried to dance, well.... Let's just say it didn't go well.
"It's a shame that this didn't happen on Saturday. Then you'd have an excuse for not being as good as Potter at Quidditch," you joked.
"Okay. Wow, that was a low blow." He laughed. Draco moved closer towards you. "Thanks for being here all day and not laughing when I made a complete fool of myself."
He took another step towards you and in one swift movement he tried to kiss you. Unfortunately, this resulted in him head-butting you. Both of you erupted into laughter.
He rubbed his head. "Ow, that hurt. Can we maybe try that again tomorrow?"
"Absolutely." Suddenly, his luck seemed to be getting better.
