It's been two months. Tyler lays in silence on his hard mattress that lays limp and dusty on the unfinished carpeting. All his windows are boarded up with oak wood, replaced every month once rotten. Tyler didn't like looking outside. He thought the world was nothing but a lie, a lie we are forced to live.

Tyler had many friends. Before he showed up. He was the reason everyone slowly detached themselves from Tyler's life. All but one. A boy with bubblegum hair and Mocha eyes. A broad smile, the one that crinkled the corners of his eyes. A boy who had a tattoo that covers his entire right arm. With gauges in his ears and a piercing in his nose, he seemed like the coolest person to Tyler. His name was Josh Dun.

He saw him outside one day during the summer. He was out, shooting hoops with his younger brother Jay when he saw Josh walk out of his house with a skateboard in hand. He rolled down his driveway and turned onto Tyler's street. Tyler stopped momentarily as Josh skated by. Josh smiled and waved at him before continuing down. Tyler stared at him until Jay threw a basketball at his head.

"Come on! You can stare at the boys later! Let's play!" Jay shouted as he attempted to swish the ball, only for it to bounce off the rim and hit Tyler again. Jay is gonna get it for sure.

Josh was there when no one was. Tyler smiles more when with Josh. Tyler ate more when with Josh. Tyler laughs more with Josh. He frowns at the sight of Josh. He thinks that he's "not worthy of Tyler's time. He'll just drag him down." He told him that he was better off by himself.

But Tyler disobeyed him. One day while at school, Tyler saw him standing by himself as he stared at a paper. He was surprised to see him at his school, even though he shouldn't have. They did live in the same district. But it was so late into the year, almost nearing winter, and he now noticed him. He walked up to Josh and introduced himself. The evening clouds threaten to rain at any moment.

"Hi. You seem familiar," he says quietly. He was nervous; he didn't have any friends. He was an awkward skinny teen that wore a red beanie, black skinny jeans, a button down white shirt and black vans.

Josh was tan and muscular, but stood only at 5'5 while Tyler was 5'9. Josh usually wore his snapback backwards with his bubblegum hair sticking out from the opening in the front and on the sides. He wore a red shirt, black shorts and calf-high white socks with black vans as well.

"You do too; weren't you the one kid who was playing basketball when I rode my skateboard? You got hit in the head by a basketball once I rode off?" He folded his arms over his chest and smirked at Tyler.

"Ha, Yeah, that's me," Tyler chuckled awkwardly and scratched the back of his neck. "My name's Tyler."

"Salutations! I'm Josh!" Josh exclaimed as he held his hand out for Tyler to shake. Tyler just eyed his hand weirdly, but extended his arm to shake hands.

" 'Salutations'? It makes me want crackers," Tyler laughed.

"Not Saltines: the cracker brand. 'Salutations!' Do you know what it means?"

"Yes, it means Hello. Just more fancy." For the first time in months, Tyler smiled. Not the fake smile that he pulled when his mother asks him how was his day at school, which he always lies, "It was great mom!" before retreating upstairs to his room. But a genuine smile.

What would happen at school is something he never wants his mother to find out. It would break her heart and he doesn't want to risk it. The jocks would kick him in his stomach until he coughed up blood. They would punch his face until they hear the crunch of Tyler's nose being dislocated and broken. Until his teeth are coated in blood, his blood.

They beated him everyday in the boy's locker room in the back were the PE teacher couldn't see them. No one dared to help Tyler, fearing that the Jocks would hurt them too. When they were done, Tyler would ball-up on the floor and cry while the jocks spitted on him. That's when he appeared. Blurryface.

His job was to remind Tyler of how worthless he was. How much better it would be if Tyler was dead. Tyler would starve himself. He would throw up all his food after lunch in the boy's bathroom. He would also cut. His friends found out and instead of helping, they made it worse by leaving him. His girlfriend, Jenna, broke up with him because of how he was starving himself and cutting, and said that he need help. But she was already cheating on him with the Jock that beaten Tyler. She even accused him of cheating one time. Tyler shook away his thoughts and continued.

"Are you new?" Tyler asked. He was curious as to why he just now found out he was at his school. He would have spotted his bubblegum hair on the first day of school. Tyler knew everyone; everyone knew Tyler. Ironically, he wasn't popular, just a loser that everyone stayed clear of. No one wanted him.

"Yeah! I just transferred over since my other school was complete s—uh. Wasn't really good." Josh's smile was wide, nearly ear-to-ear. Tyler found this cute and smiled as well.

"Do you know your schedule?" Tyler asked.

"Umm," Josh looked off to the right, trying to remember. He looked down at the paper in his hand and read them out "I have Math first period. History Second period. English Third. Music Fourth-"

"Hey! I have Music fourth too!" Tyler exclaim.

"Really? I play the drums, what do you play?"Josh questioned.

"Piano. But I usually play the ukulele." Tyler smiles proudly. Josh smiles with him and he feels his heart melt.

"Nice! Anyway, I have PE fifth, do you?" Tyler froze. PE was practically Hell for him. Not because of exercise; Tyler is actually very athletic himself. It's just that his bullies were in the same class as him. Thats where he was dragged and beaten. If Josh is in the same class, he might lose him too. He might think of him as a loser and laugh at him. Tyler was going to respond to him until the bell rang to alert people to report to their Fourth Period class.

"Hey, you want to walk together to Music?" Tyler asked shyly. Josh just nodded and smiled again. He moved to walk to the right of Tyler and continued their conversation from before the bell.
