Awakening

He pointed me toward the opening in the tree. "I'm sure you'll be pleased. It's surprisingly large once you're inside." The man spoke in poison letters while his lips spiraled into an egregious smirk..

Then next thing I knew, I shot up in my bed, sweat bubbling from my skin. It was only a dream. But it just felt so... real! I must have been screaming, for my dog seemed to be terrified for me. If only my parents were home this week. Normally they would be barging in through my bedroom door to comfort me in the most culminating of ways. But they weren't. Not anymore.

My parents are some of the best doctors in the entire states. They are alway gone and leaving me to fend for myself. For the week, my parents are off on the west coast, helping a scholar class on neuropsychology. Instead of just sitting in a daze of the dread of this horrid dream, I got up and went down to the kitchen, gathering myself a small midnight snack.

Soon I finished up, shutting down all of the lights and racing up the stairway, feeling as if a murderer was plunging after me. I reached the top and sultry walked to my bedroom and laid upon my bed. I covered myself in the warmth of my flannel sheets.

After about a half hour of trying to get back to sleep, but failing miserably from my dream, I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and began scrolling through my Instagram feed. As my eyes grew heavy, I shut my phone down and laid my head against the soft warmth of my pillow and drifted off to sleep.

The next thing I knew, I was back in that odd world from before. The man was back. And so was that stupid tree. The whole place was so vivid, like I had been there in real life. But this was a dream. Wasn't it?

I awoke at the same point in the dream. The man wanted me to go into the tree. But this time when I wiped the sweat from my brow and leaned over the edge of my bed, it was morning. At least it was a Saturday and I could have some fun.

Over the weekend, I just kept having that horrific dream. I don't know if that means something or not, but each time I enter that realm, the world around me seems so familiar. Almost as if it is in the woods right outside my house. It's Monday morning and I decided to call in sick to the school. This tree was far more important. I needed to know what it meant...

As I explored the woods, I noticed this odd path that seemed to be a road less traveled. I don't know why, but I had this godforsaken compulsion to go down that pathway. I did as my instincts told me as a gelid chill ran down my spine. I kept going and as my suspicion arose, the tree was at the end of the path. The dead end.

There was only one affair I had left to do. I needed to go in...
