A quiet Friday afternoon on campus. I am doing class work for my Pre-Cal class rapping along with "Bang!" playing quietly from my phone. As I write down my last answer to the worksheet for that week I look over my shoulder toward the bathroom a sickly man begins running to the bathroom down the hall and I hear what sounds like hurling.
"Must've been bad Mexican" I mumble to myself starting to pack up my laptop and notebook. As I stand another man who I didn't notice comes running out of the bathroom, terrified.
"Dude... what the fuck!" he shouts looking at me wild eyed. "Do not go in there! Call the cops or something! Jesus..." he sprints down the hall leaving me confused. I slowly open the door of the bathroom and peek in what I see horrifies me. First thing I see is blood all over the floor which looked as if it was spat at out high speeds. In the corner a man lays still, the man I noticed scrambling into the room in the beginning.
"H-Hey, you good dude?" I asked curiously and halfheartedly.
The man begins coughing again. "Oh thank god you're alive. Uh, do you want me to call 911?". He stands up slowly with his back to me. "Aye, you can stand up!" I said with an obvious quiver in my voice. He turns around. This man is white but his face is pale and from his mouth drips deep red blood, lots of it.
"Oh for fucks sake..." I whisper to myself starting to back away. He shambles toward me groaning. I swing the door open still looking back toward the bathroom door. Not a soul was in hallway but the screams outside... the screams were absolutely horrifying. I buckle my backpack around my chest and grip my laptop bag tight and start sprinting out of the Engineering building.
Looking around when I step out the back door I notice people sprinting off campus. My first two years of college were spent exploring the twisting campus halls and streets. With that knowledge I decide it is best to hide out on campus most people will try and run away leaving the streets and especially downtown crowded. With haste I move toward the library. Noticing the front doors flooded with people in a panic I think to myself how I will get in.
"Ahh! The basement has an entrance accessible from outside!" I thought to myself. Moving around the sides of the building to the long stairway leading downward I look behind me at the chaos above and slip in, quietly shutting the door behind me.
Once inside I check my phone. No signal. I think to myself I should go to the upper floors. Slowly shambling up the stairs to the 5th floor I check my phone I have a text from my mother who is with my Dad and sister in South Carolina it reads: "Everything is crumbling around the country but we are safe please stay safe baby we love you." I respond to assure them I am safe and will do whatever I can to stay alive. With that text sent I begin to check up on my friends Nick, Tyler, Jade, Brittany and Khalil who just flew in from his deployment.
"Guys, I am stranded downtown on campus wait it out near the desert then head back into town after darkness falls and it quiets down.". I hit send in our group-chat.
