I tensed again, feeling my breath catch in my throat. “More wolves?”

“Only a few…because Garion asked them to protect me. Although…I don’t really need it,” she said. My skin ran cold and I felt a heat fill my thoughts. More wolves. Here. Now.

CHAPTER 5

I could feel my muscles clenching and my lungs screamed for air. Panic filled me and I swayed ever so slightly, the world seeming to spin.

            “Erin…are you okay?”

“Ya,” my voice came out high pitched and air filled my lungs, the dizziness stopped. “Why didn’t they come out when Asmodeus first came then?”

“I had it under control,” she told me. I looked at our surroundings. The soil was reddish-brown and the trees were spaced far apart. Oh no.

            “Kenna, where are we?”

She looked guilty, “When Asmodeus disappeared, there were poisonous gasses in the air…and you were unconscious, I couldn’t leave you…”

“Where are we?” I asked again. These trees were nowhere near the forest just behind my cabin.

“Beore Mountains…,” she said slowly, the guilt filling her tone. Beore Mountains. That was a three-day travel away from my village. I felt faint again.

“How long was I out?” I asked; my mouth was completely dry.

“Two days…Alejandro and Josh said you needed some water so I stopped here…,” she motioned to a stream, “After purifying it and giving you some…you came around.”

            “Who?”

“Alejandro and Josh…Josh was Garion’s brother. He was the second young man in the story that I told you…and Alejandro was a friend…though I don’t see him as much,” she explained. Wolves. She had talked to wolves, meaning that they had been…

“I have to get home,” I said after a second’s thought. Poor Gram…she had to be worried sick. And Al and Drake…

“Okay,” she nodded and looked over her shoulder, hearing something I didn’t. A man, looking in his late teens with jet-black hair and green eyes approached Kenna, and he eyed me with mistrust. He crouched next to Kenna, “Can we trust her?”

            Can they trust me?

“Of course we can! This is Erin!” Kenna scoffed, “I would have left her there if I didn’t trust her! Well…no, not really…but still!”

He nodded slightly, his expression tranquil and he smiled, looking to me, “Well then, it’s a pleasure to meet you, beautiful Erin.” He kissed my hand, his eyes changing to the color of teal.

A blush tiptoed up my neck, reaching my cheeks and I blinked, “Teal’s my favorite color!”

            What the heck…? I did not just…

He chuckled lightly; “A hyper girl, I take it?” he turned to Kenna, “Asmodeus found you?”

“He did, but I doubt he’ll bother me again,” she assured him and his eyes swam in distress.
