School. Term 1 of Year 10. Another year of me being top of the popularity scale. I mean, of course I am, I have everything.
I walk into the classroom and sit at the back with my girls; Sara, Katie, Lily, Poppy, Diana, Jane and Lucy. Sara and I have been friends since Year 1. She's my bestie. The other girls are obviously my friends also but Sara wins the BFF award. Our teacher Miss Kim walks in and silences us. Why? Lily was telling me some juicy gossip about the latest break-up, Kyle Jacobs and Viki Pow. She promises me she'll finish it at lunch. Two hours from now. I sit back and listen to Miss Kim drone on about the upcoming History test. Whatever, she's old enough to have selfies of her with the Roman Gods.
It's finally lunch. I eat my usual kale and crisps and I find out that Kyle and Viki broke up during the Summer, Kyle is now dating a girl called Wendy, Viki was so upset after the ordeal that she put on 5kg and that she has a crush on a guy called Fredrick. The bell rings and we walk to class. Maths. Why do I have to figure out how much paint I would need for walls? Why don't they teach us useful stuff like when Michael Queen is touring?
At the end of the day Sara, Poppy, Lucy and I catch the bus into to the mall. We go into our favourite juice bar, Georgia's Juice, and then head to the retailers. Poppy finds this adorable top that she states will go perfectly with her new Capri's, Lucy finds a new pair of platform sandals, Sara buys this gorgeous sapphire necklace and I buy a new Guess watch. As we walk out the mall chatting and laughing I get a text. It's from my Mum.
'Come home now'
I reply with, 'Why???'
'Your father'
'Huh? What's wrong with him?'
'He's been diagnosed with brain cancer'
