Subtitle: The government in control
Descrption: Kayla was the most productive girl in town until the government took her away for being "unproductive." The real reason is that she is blind, and the government hates disabilities. They want to destory anyone who is not perfect. Will they succeed, or will Kayla get away.
----------------------
Kayla wakes up and reaches for her cane, so she can feel her way around. Then she sighs as she can't find it. Right, the government is holding her here and won't give her a cane.
It's not fair that she's being punished for being blind. They say that it's not punishments, it's to "keep society productive" and "get rid of dead weight."
Kayla has been productive her whole life though. No one would ever accuse her from being useless. At lot of people would say she is the most productive girl in town
She was a straight A student, read whole novels in braille, and won all kinds of academic awards. She entered essay contests with a voice to speech program, and the awards added up to a full ride to the college of her choice.
At sixteen, she started volunteering at the children's hospital three days a week. The little kids looked up to her and admired her. She adored them too.
Two of the other days, she worked at a center to help newly blind people adjust to the changes they will have to make. She worked four hours a day and made forty dollars a week.
Now, she is sitting in a "Rehabilitation center" at age twenty and is less productive than she ever was when she lived free. She walks around feeling with her hands for her dresser. Feeling the little figurine on top of it, she grabs a drawer and finds a shirt and some shorts.
Rayen walks over to Kayla after she gets changed and asks, "Do you want me to lead you to breakfast?"
Rayen is in the Rehabilitation Center because she is in a wheelchair. She was born paralyzed and sent here then she was sent to this center when she was nineteen, only a week after Kayla was sent here.
They quickly became best friends and would sit up late in bed at night, giggling like little girls at their first sleep over. They started to do everything together. Rayen would help Kayla with getting to places, and Kayla helped Rayen with stuff she had trouble with because of the wheelchair.
"Yes please."
"I'm gonna grab your arm, okay?"
Kayla smiles, "Okay."
Rayen grabs Lucy's arm and guides her to the cafeteria, moving her wheel chair with her left hand.
They don't get a chance to eat when they get there though because an announcement comes over the loud speaker, "Everyone go to the recreation room, now."
The recreation room is an almost empty room with only government propaganda about how useless disabled people are. It is required everyone spend almost all day in there.
The girls go there with Rayen still guiding Kayla. Rayen says, "I wonder what they want."
"Someone must have made them mad, so they are going to tell us how useless we are again. Most of us have done more with our lives than they have though."
Getting in there, they stand in a line waiting for whatever the government officials wanted to say to them. Kayla is standing there when she hears gunshots and screams. She shouts, "What's going on!?!"
Rayen drags her wheeling off, "The guard started shooting at everyone!!! We've got to run!!"
Kayla runs next to the wheelchair, holding onto Rayen's arm like a lifeline.
"We're almost to the door!!!"
Kayla starts to sigh in relief when she fulls a piercing pain in her back. She falls to the ground. As she starts blacking out, she hears Rayen screaming at her, "No!!! Kayla!!! I need you!!"
