Day 28:
I breathed in the smell of morning: lightly wet grass and freshly bloomed flowers. There was also a hint of something rotten in the air and it made me open my eyes to carefully check my surroundings. The horizon looked clear and I didn't hear any chaos surrounding me so I felt somewhat safe.
My eyes shot over to the door of the roof I had fallen asleep on and I was reassured that I was safe when I saw my chain and padlock were still in tact. I stood up and lightly stretched, lightly groaning when my vertebrae popped. I quickly rolled up my sleeping bag and attached it to the bottom of my backpack. I put my gun and machete in my holsters and took a walk along the roof of the coffee shop I was currently on top of. I didn't see anything around except for the broken down vehicles that were haphazardly all over the roads. As I rounded the building, I heard a bit of static over my walkie talkie and what sounded like my name. I took it off my belt and pressed the button to talk.
"Go for Rosie," I said with a smirk. "Atlas said to tell you that we got a message from a group asking for help and Genie wants you to help and bring them to us if you can." "Tell them I've got it, just tell me where they are and I'm good to go."
My friends decided to nickname me 'Rosie the Riveter' because of my can do attitude and the fact that I'm great with repairing stuff. Atlas is our resident map genius, if we need to go from Point A to Point B, Atlas will find the most efficient way to get there. Genie is our doctor/medic and she's also very into botany. She was an resident at a huge hospital before everything happened. Gidget is our communications expert. He knows about 10 languages aside from english and is normally the person who relays messages between Genie, Atlas and I whenever I'm in the field. He's also Genie's twin brother.
Any way, as he told me the location I walked back to where the door was and unlocked the padlock and unhooked the chains. I went over to my backpack and stashed them back in before closing it and putting it on my back. I lightly walked down the stairs and walked out the back doorway into the alley. I turned to my right and continued until I was behind the store. I pulled out my gps and input the location that Gidget gave me and realized I was about 50-60 miles south of where I needed to be.
I turned back and walked to the front of the coffee shop and turned left and walked a while until I saw the motorcycle dealership I had passed last night. I walked into the dealership and went into the manager's office behind the front desk and took a set of keys off the wall that had a Kawasaki label on it. I went back outside and looked around until I found a Kawasaki Z800 ABS. I checked the gas tank and it was surprisingly full, so I hopped on and started it up. As it roared to life, I heard a series of moans coming from the city that the dealership was on the outskirts of and decided to head out to the pickup spot.
