Preface.

“Hunter!” a child no more than eight called after an eleven year old boy. She stood from her front porch and run afters him. “Hunter, please wait!”

“Elise, please don't follow me, I have something I need to do.” the young male said to the child. Her eyes seemed to flash with anger as she puffed up and fumed at him.

“Big Brother, you cannot leave me alone, mom isn't home and daddy is at work. If you leave me alone, I am telling Daddy on you.”

Hunter groaned and took his little sister's hand and lead her to the house. Giving her the sternest look he could muster, the boy turned from his sister and started to walk away again. Elise got back up and followed him. She wanted to know where her brother was going. They walked for what seemed like hours before he reached his destination. A cliff-side area. Sitting on a bench was a girl, no older than Elise herself, turned to see Hunter standing behind her.

“Hello Fenix, it's been a while hasn't it?” Hunter smiled at the new girl as she stood to greet him. The girl nodded and smiled back.

Elise immediately grew jealous. Her brother was not aloud to see another girl when he was supposed to be watching her. The younger sister got out from her hiding space and started yelling at her brother. “Hunter, you are supposed to be watching me! Not visiting some other girl! I am your sister, not her!” the child stepped forward and pointed at Fenix who looked utterly surprised. “Daddy is going to hear about this when he gets home! Why are you spending time with a freak?”

Hunter looked like he was about to explode. “She isn't a freak Elise, she is a Magyk!”

Fenix stilled and watched the fighting siblings, trying to find a place to interrupt and defend herself but Hunter and Elise refused to give her that luxury. Their eyes glued on one another and both close to going all out. “I don't care Hunter, she is not supposed to be anywhere near here anyway! She isn't human!”

Elise had gotten closer and was poking her brother in the chest. She had seen her mother do the same thing to their father before their mother left them. She continued to poke him till he was moved next to the bench. That is when Fenix saw how close they were to the cliff-side. She moved to reach for the other girl but her hand was swatted away. Elise saw her mistake just as fast as her swatting the Magyk's hand. Almost as soon as it happened, she felt the ground give way and felt the earth dissipate from under her feet......

Chapter one.

Fenix awoke with a start. The memory flooded her mind and soul as she opened her eyes. The sound of the little girl screaming for the monster to let her go. Her eyes had flooded and spilled over. She didn't want to be saved by a creature made to kill humans. She wanted her big brother to be the one to save her. In her stupidity, she had clawed Fenix's hand and forced the girl to drop her. The sound of Hunter screaming his sister's name immediately echoed through the woman's head. She regretted not holing on as she pushed her black and silver hair out of the way of her gold eye and placed it in front of her silver one.

“I am sorry I couldn't save Elise.” She whispered and jumped from the tree branch that she had fallen asleep in. Her eyes floated up to the moon. She knew she hadn't been asleep for long and was slightly glad for it. She walked in the direction of the main city and to a large building full of windows and the smell of illness.

Entering the glass building, she nodded at the woman at the front desk and headed up to the room she had visited over a thousand times before. She knew HE wouldn't be there tonight, or at least she hoped he wouldn't be there. Once she reached the room she was determined to get to. Her eyes scanned the room and she sent a web of her powers to make sure there was no one else in the room. Slowly, Fenix took her seat next to a bed that held the body of the girl she could not save. Tears filled her eyes as she took the woman's hand and apologized repeatedly.
