Outside the sun was shining, the light-blue sky making it more sharp to the eye. The grass was glittery, almost like a fairy tale. The sun disappeared behind the trees as Mackenzie made her way trough the woods. Everything around her was glittering and wet from the rain the day before. It made everything seem like magic.

She kept walking, looking around in her surroundings. Then she saw it. Something gold, glittering in the corner of her left eye.

She turned to it, almost running to see what it was. The golden light got stronger, expanding, until it blinded her and all she could see was gold. She reached out, searching after something to support herself. Her hand touched something hard. She grabbed a hold of it and dragged it out of the blinding light.

As soon as the object was safely in her arms, the blinding light got smaller and smaller, until it completely disappeared. Where the light once had been, a pen was in its place. She looked down to what she was holding, and discovered it was a book.

It was dark red, golden streaks lining the book. The lines curved and reached the middle, where a big golden mark was placed. It stood something too, but nothing Mackenzie understood.

She opened the book, and as soon as she did it, the dark red pen came flying into her hand. The book and the pen must have a connection.

The book was thick, the pages old and dusty. Still, no one had written in it. She would be the first.

She looked at the dark red pen a moment, before taking a chance, putting the pen tip onto the old page.

"Once upon a time.." she wrote, the words coming out as red ink. An animal screamed in distance, but Mackenzie didn't notice.

"there was a girl named Maddie." she continued.  The animals scream didn't stop.

"She was a beautiful girl, always bouncing around and giggling" A childish giggle was heard.

"She had dark hair, cascading down her back"

"Her eyes were the brightest of blue, filled with joy"

"She was little, but was incredibly fast. When she ran, she was nothing more than wild wind"

A sharp wind brushed past Mackenzie. It woke her up from her little trance, and she looked up.

In front of her was a dead rabbit, and behind the rabbit, was Maddie. Mackenzie gasped at the sight. She looked exactly as she had imagined, the cheery smile still on her face.

The little girl looked around in awe. "Wow!" she exclaimed. "Where am I?"

Mackenzie still looked at her in shock, her mouth hanging open, eyes wide. The girl didn't notice. In fact, she was way to busy looking around in her surroundings.

As she had seen everything though, she turned around and noticed Mackenzie's astounded face.

"What's the matter?" she asked, slightly pouting. Mackenzie shook her head, trying to get rid of the horrible hallucination she was having.

"y-you're not real," Mackenzie finally said, her voice a bit shaken. Maddie laughed then, a long laugh, before abruptly stopping. She jumped in front of Mackenzie, grabbing her arm. Mackenzie gasped at the coldness of her skin.

"Can you feel my hand?" Maddie asked. Mackenzie nodded slowly and Maddie let go of her arm. Her smile was once again there, like it was never gone.

"But.." Mackenzie said, slowly gaining her composure. "How did you.. you know.. get out?"

Maddie looked at her, her little mouth forming a smirk.

"You haven't figured it out yet, have you," she said, looking like she was trying hard to contain her laughter.

Mackenzie was truly confused. "What do you mean?" Maddie sighed, clearly annoyed by Mackenzie's stupidity.

"Do you see the rabbit over there?" she said, pointing towards the dead rabbit.

"Um, yes?"

"That rabbit died because of you" Maddie said, pointing towards her. Mackenzie almost choked on her own saliva.

"What the hell do you mean?!" she exclaimed. "I haven't even touched it!"

Maddie sighed again and stomped towards her, grabbing the pen she still held in her hand. She closed the book, then she sat down on the grass.

"Tell me the color of the pen and the book" she said slowly, like talking to a child. Mackenzie narrowed her eyes at her. How could her own creation be so mean?  Still, she took a look at the book and the pen, before answering.

"Dark red" she said. Maddie nodded, a cruel smile forming itself on her lips.

"And what does it resemble?" Mackenzie was again confused. It took a while before she got it, and her face got 10 shades paler then it already was.

"B-blood?" she said, more like a question than a statement.

Maddie nodded slowly, the cruel smile still on her face.

"That rabbit got no blood left" she mocked. "It was all used to write your little character in the book. And here I am!" She stood up, throwing her hands in the air.

Mackenzie was stunned. To stunned to even answer to the cruelness of her character. Maddie noticed it. She went down on her knees and waved her hand in front of Mackenzie.

"Hallooo?" she said, slightly annoyed.

Mackenzie's eyes moved to the book, and she got an idea. When Maddie had turned around, giving up on trying to get her attention, Mackenzie throwed herself over the book. She opened it, ripping out the page she had written on.

Maddie turned around, fuming with anger. Her face was already turning pale, and she struggled to move over to Mackenzie, who was ripping the paper to pieces.

"You monster.." Maddie whispered.

"I'm not a monster, you are" Mackenzie replied. And with that, she flung the tiny pieces of paper into the air, for them to be taken by the wind and disappear.

Maddie screamed. She tried to jump and grab the pieces, but she was being pulled into a mini-tornado. She screamed, desperately trying to hold onto Mackenzie, who simply peeled her off. She saw her defeat and gave up, the tornado sucking her into the open book.

"I will come back!" she promised. The book closed with a bang and Mackenzie was again alone.

"WOW" she said. "That was some afternoon!"

And with that she stood up, leaving the woods without a second glance back.
