Chapter 9

Lana’s POV

Alec kept his promise and stayed with me for hours.

Nate never really did show up 'late' per say. I felt like I would never have enough time with this man.

At one point, it got so hot that we decided to find a way to get cool. We ended up sitting in the corner of the small market, out of sight from the owner.

“How long do you think it’s gonna take for him to notice us?” Alec whispered.

“I'd say right about now.” I smiled.

The clerk was headed towards us, but he didn't really look mad.

“Hey, you two need to go. I let you stay in here for a while, but you’re freakin' out my customers.” He said.

Alec stood and I took his hand and stood next to him.

“Sorry sir.” Alec said and pulled me outside.

I started to laugh as soon as my foot was out the door. “Well, so much for that, right?”

There was no answer.

“Ale-.”

A sudden burst of coldness shot at my spine. I yelped and spun around. There was Alec, with a hose in his hands, his eyebrows raised.

“Oops.” He smirked.

”Hey!” I yelled.

He sprayed me again, and despite it feeling really good, I ran towards him in search of another hose.

I quickly found one and sprayed at him.

“Ow!” He said.

“Oops.” I mimicked.

He smiled and aimed at me. “Shoot me if you dare.” He waggled his eyebrows at me, making me laugh.

“Oh, I will.” I smiled and shot at him, and boy, did he shoot back.

I almost lost my balance from the spray of water. What could I say? It was a powerful hose.

My clothes were soaked through, and as I inched closer to him, my hair got even more drenched then it was before.

I made my face become serious and I pointed behind him. “Look!” I cried. Then I shot at his back, making him jump forward.

“Hey! No fair!”

I smirked at him. “I'd say you've met your match.”

He heaved a sigh. “I don't think so!” He aimed at me.

“Lana?” A voice said before Alec shot.

I turned to see Mason, Ethan, Colby, Matt and Nate standing a few feet away from us.

“Nate?” I gasped. Tears welled up in my eyes.

I ran towards my brother, right into his warm embrace.

We were both crying, but we both knew no one here cared, because they were all on me.

“Lana!” Mason cried.

In a matter of a few seconds, I was in each of everyone's arms. I was hugging Mason the most though.

“Don't you ever do that to me again.” She fumed. “Never leave me again.”

I nodded. “I'm sorry.” I cried.

”Hey, it's okay now. You don't need to cry. No one can hurt you now. Where have you been anyway?” She asked.

I stood back, I was ready to tell my fake story.

“I've been staying in a small town, away from everything. Where's Erick?” I asked. It pained me to ask about Erick when I knew exactly where he was.

Nate sighed. “We thought you would know that.”

I frowned. “Oh.”

“But Lana, were our own-.“ Mason started but Nate cut her off.

“Who's this?” He asked glaring at Alec who stood there awkwardly.

“Oh, sorry.” I wiped my eyes. “This is Alec. Alec, this is my brother Nate. That’s Mason, Colby, Matt and Ethan.”

Alec smiled at all of them. “Nice to meet you Nate. Lana's been awful worried about you.”

I grinned. “Alec helped me get here, so be nice.” I rose my eyebrow at Nate who looked shocked.

“Why are you looking at me?” He said.

I rolled my eyes and turned to Alec. “Thank you... for everything.”

He nodded. “Guess you don't need me anymore.”

I smiled softly and hugged him. I had to touch him, my hands were yearning to. He hugged me tightly back and stepped back.

“Take care.”

I nodded. “You too.”

I couldn't help but stare after him as he walked away. Then something snapped and I was back to reality.

“Lana, we should talk. First of all, Quinn is pissed. Like really, really pissed, and we need to hide you or something.”

I nodded. The truth was, I wasn’t really paying attention, my mind was still on Alec. He wasn’t anything to me really though, we had just met, and the less people I put in danger, the better.

I turned to Nate. “So now what?”

He shrugged. “We hide.”
