Damon pours bourbon into a glass and hands it over to Elena. He takes a seat beside me on the couch and lets out a deep sigh. Before either of us entered the study, Damon had briefly gone over what had happened at the school. It feels weird to know Stefan is out there, that he is no longer the same way that I last saw him but I guess it was always like this when he was off with Klaus. I had seen him do some terrible things while I was on the road with them those couple of days.
It was odd walking into the home and finding out people were inside, it has been just me for a couple of days. To find Damon waiting inside for me was a surprise.
The room is quiet, until Damon decides to speak up, "You know I can help you forget, at least the memories you don't want to keep."
"No," Elena says quickly shooting down his offer. "He's really gone this time, I watched it happen." Her eyes scan the bourbon in her glass as she fights the tears.
Subconsciously, my hand grips onto the blanket that was set on the couch. I really need to tell them what Clarissa said back in the school. Maybe Damon could have some idea as to who she was and although it pains me to see my cousin like this, I really can't focus on the problems she has with her...breakup?
"Where were you Damon?" She cries out. My eyes scan the side of his face as the same question runs through my mind. I was left alone. He simply vanished, I would like to know the answer to that as well.
He lets out a deep breath. "I shouldn't have left," He responds: he didn't answer her question. I scramble in my seat as I watch this very intimate stare off occur, if I would have known any better I'd say there was some tension going off in this room. Some sexual tension. "I promise you. I will never leave you again."
"Well isn't this cozy," I jump in my seat and almost spill my water over Damon. Stefan smirks down at us, leaning against a wooden beam. He looks the same but I can tell by the look in his eyes; this is not the Stefan I know.
Damon gets on his feet and faces Stefan. "What are you doing here, brother?"
"Last I checked, I live here." My eyes widen as I shoot a look over to Damon. "Klaus is gone but he's asked me to keep watch on you until he returns. From now on, you're under my protection." He says looking directly at Elena. He holds his stare until his eyes gravitate towards me. His lips quirk up, "And you. Klaus was pretty persistent on keeping an eye on you. You and I are going to be the best friends." I swallow up the words he says and I can feel Damon tense up as his words.
He excuses himself and leaves us behind in shock. "What the fuck?" I groan and knock myself deep into the couch.
I track lazily through the woods, waiting for a sign to tell me that the two of them were here. The moment I hear the bomb go off I know I'm close. I take a couple side glances behind me to make sure he wasn't following.
"Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want and they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature." Ric is fuming while talking to Elena.
I let out a low whistle and lean my shoulder against the tree. They both turn their attention towards me, "Geez Ric, really hurting a girls feelings." I find amusement in all the fine things in life, especially now that my sense of humor has somehow magnified. Elena training to become some kind of vampire slayer would have been funny when I was human, it's a lot funnier now that I am something she's trying to kill.
I'm really trying to keep a positive outlook on being dead. Alaric making comments like that isn't really helping but I don't allow myself to show an emotion.
"You know I wasn't talking about you," He rubs the palms of his hands over his eyes tiredly.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Next time, just say Stefan."
