My name is Julia. I live in District 12 and school is the same every year on the day before the reaping. Everyone is acting nervous, I don't see why, it's not as if their name is being entered 36 times like mine. The school day went by fast. When I got home I changed into my hunting clothes and boots. I yelled to my mom that I was going for a walk. Walk was our codeword for hunting. When I got to the fence I checked to make sure it wasn't on. Nothing, as usual. I ran quietly to my bow and arrows and grabbed them. I went to my hiding place behind a old oak tree. I saw a deer eating berries off a bush. It didn't notice me until the arrow practially entered it's stomach. Poor thing, I thought. I heard the indistinguishable sound of a twig snapping. I whirled around to find Jason, my hunting partner. He was standing there smiling at me as if he had been waiting for me to turn around. I loved how when he smiled his skin crinkled around his eyes. He didn't know that I had a crush on him, then again, only a few people did.

"Are you nervous about tomorrow?" he asked.

"Well duh! My name's in there 36 times!" I replied.

"Same here. I guess the odds aren't exactly in our favor. It's sort of scary," he added. I only nodded in response.

"To get the deer to our families we have to hide it and bring it back in small chunks," Jason suggested. I nodded again, How stupid do look? I thought. We carried the 100 pound deer to a clever hiding spot and took 3-4 chunks each. As we approached the fence we once again checked for electricity. As usual, nothing. We slithered under the fence and walked to our roads. The roads that we both lived on were right next to each other and forked. We said our goodbyes and walked to our houses. I gave the deer chunks to my mother and her eyes widened in awe. I nodded as if to say Yep, I shot a deer. It was almost 6 so I made dinner out of the deer my mom prep

ared. We each, my mom, my sister, and I all got a piece of deer and some veggie stew. My mom called my sister down when dinner was ready.

"Jules, did you catch the deer?" Amelia, my sister asked me. I nodded yes. Amelia was 13, 2 years younger than me. She was curious about almost everything she didn't know about. She, my mom, and I gobbled up our dinner, since we rarely had something this good. We walked up the stairs to our rooms and said our goodnights. It was almost 9 now and we had to go to bed since we had to get ready for the reaping tomorrow. My head hit the pillow and I fell asleep almost instantly.
