Well, now that your character is made or "born," you can start.
A challenge that you must, must beat is keeping a constant character tone. If your character is a deep sleeper, like yours truly, then he or she just wont wake up by the first whisper (without a reason) the next day.
Characters change. That is the average decent book for you. A character has a problem, they try to resolve it; more problems form until you're at the climax, and then you have your satisfied reolution.
This would be considered speaking about the plot, but your character is a part of it and is impacted by the plot.
Say someone lost a person dear to them. This tragedy might have cause them to be secluded and from social life. The incident might leave them in a poor or even homeless situation. How could they feel? Would your character give up on everything, would they be in denial?

Something to watch in characters is to keep their knowledge limited. They don't have to be the next prodigy, they don't have to be able to master it the first try. Here's an example to what I mean.
Annie has never seen a movie on any cd player before, she hasn't even seen one until today. Yet she puts in a cd without any hesitations, struggles or instructions.
And:
Vladmir speaks nothing but fluent Russian, but when the man on his doorstep starts speaking Arabic (Imagine the difference in these languages!), he adopts an immediate understanding of what he says. Not a few words here and there, a conversational level of Arabic.
Let Annie get angry over the dumb instructions she cant have. Let Vladmir's mother be Arab so that he understands slightly.
Summary on CHARACTERS:
-Have Flaws -->they make mistakes
-Have Strengths-->but not everything's a mistake
-Are Relatable Someway --> even as simple as hating homework
-Changes Occur Throughout the Story --> Change takes time.
All in all, that is my advice on CHARACTERS.
