Alyssa's POV
Maddy and I joined the others on the sidewalk and started walking to school.
"So, Maddy, it's your first day of school. Are you excited?" Sarah asked.
"Beyond excited. I can't believe I'm starting land school!"
"Just try to fit in and not do anything crazy."
"Don't worry. You guys have done a good job of integrating me in with land people. I think I can handle school."
"Alyssa, you're mom got her enrolled and everything, right?" Max double checked.
"Yep. Her schedule is waiting for her in the office."
"Is she taking the same classes as us?"
"Yeah. My mom requested that she was in all of my classes, claiming that Maddy was my cousin from another country and she needed my support to get through school."
"Nice. You'll like our teachers." Diana smiled at her.
"I can't wait to meet them."
"What did your mom say her last name was?"
"Mckensie."
"How did she fake her birth certificate?"
"My mom knows some people. She got it done as soon as Maddy got here. She's all set to be a land girl."
"Good. Now, we're almost to school, so get ready for the chaos."
"Yeah, stay with me and you'll be fine." I smiled at her.
She nodded as she took a deep breath. "Let's do this."
We walked through the doors and were greeted by the guys.
"Hey, Maddy. Ready to go to school?" Dalton asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
"Don't be nervous. The girls will be with you all day," Jackson added.
"I'm not nervous. I'm excited."
"Just try to stay dry, okay?" Thomas wrapped his arm around her shoulders, making her smile.
"I will. I've been doing it for the past couple weeks. I think I can handle high school."
"I don't know. There's water everywhere at our school. These guys have been splashed quite a few times," Cameron chimed in.
"I'll be fine. I'll have you four there to keep me out of trouble."
"I'll haven't been in on the secret for long, but I know that it's hard to hide. Just make sure that you know where the good hiding places are."
"I do. The girls showed me them my first day on land."
"Good. Be careful, okay?" Thomas pecked her cheek.
"I will. Will you people quit stressing? I'll be fine."
The bell rang and we headed in our separate directions, the rest of the girls saying goodbye before we left.
Dalton gave me a quick hug after he hugged Max. "Keep Maddy safe, all right? For Mom."
"Don't worry. I won't leave her side." I smiled at him as he walked away.
"You guys have gotten really close, haven't you?" Cameron asked as he intertwined our fingers, our legs taking us toward our first class.
"Yeah, we have. It's nice to know he's there for me."
"And you've both gotten close to your mom?"
"Yeah, we spend as much time out there with her as we can. Having a family that fully gets the mermaid thing is nice. We also want to know more about where we came from."
