“Like all good things, it must come to an end.”

 Chapter One

Over The Cobbles and Into the Mist!

You know when you were younger and you would look underneath your bed for bogie man or some red eyed monster with a snakes’ tongue trying to eat you. Now the only thing you check for is an article of clothing you threw under there a few days ago. Sometimes you laugh at ‘your old foolish days’ and even though there’s no such as monsters under your bed, anything is possible.

My mother and I had moved to the old house by the lake, trying to forget our lose and like most normal people, move on. But my mother and I were never normal, me and her heard things, believe in ghosts. Together we saw the world differently than anybody else did because believing in what we couldn’t see made our lives so much more bearable until the day everything we knew and loved died before our eyes.

The day we packed our lives away and burned the past, except for my memory box filled with pictures, money, and a journal filled with all my poetry. Every once and a while I’ll sit on my bed and read out loud something from the journal, smile and say ‘everything is okay,’  but in the end I know it wasn’t, At least not anymore.

Two weeks after we moved I decided to walk to the lake because sitting around all day was getting very frustrating. Being a magnet that attracts trouble was a trait that ran in the family. So of course I tripped on a tree branch and rolled down the hill leading towards the lake.

“Hey watch out, won’t you!” Some people don’t have enough brains to realize I lost my footing.

“Oh, right. Sorry for falling!” I yelled back, too bad he didn’t notice my sarcastic tone.

“Listen, I’m sorry’ He says while helping me up and I dust off my dress.”The name’s Jack, Jack Wright.”

“Marie Crown, nice to meet you,” I say while walking away.

“No one talked about a pretty girl like you moving into the ghost house. Did you move a while ago?” He said when I reached my porch.

“Yes very. Well, I must be going now.” How could my mother not tell me about our house being haunted, obviously it was nicknamed for a reason. After struggling up the staircases, I found Lillian; my mom unpacking her things in the master bedroom in the west wing of the house. “Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked her.

“If I did you wouldn’t have agreed to move here.” Her voice said the obvious. “You have school tomorrow, you need some rest.” I just shook my head while walking away.

                So much for rest that night, more like restlessness. I dreamt of a misunderstood girl, me or at least she looked like me . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Over The Cobbles and Into The Mist!

My story goes a little like this . . . . . . .

Over the cobbles and into the mist.

There came a crackle, a pop, and a hiss

Into the rain and out with shame

A cloud of something random

A child, a baby’s tantrum.

Laughing on its way

The beast came swaying, ready to play.

A game it know so well,

A game that all the villagers can tell.

The fear and hate are like its meal,

More fear it stays, that was the deal.

Watching you with its lizard eyes

Watching you, like you’re a fly.

But one smart girl had an idea.

‘You must love this dreadful beast’ she’d shout

And as no one listened, she gave pout.

‘Nothing is right, when no one is heard.’

And from her lips she sang her song,

Of beast who wanted to get along.

The loving power her voice held.

Showed the people wrong, as the beast began to melt.

As they asked her the secret.

She would shake her head & say

‘Listening is a skill to all mankind, and love is what I hope you’ll find. My melody is something my mother would sing to me. But if you had learned early that love is the way, Then maybe you would have seen, the beast would never have stayed.’

My story went a little like this . . . . . .

Over the cobbles and into the mist.

Like every other house we’ve live in, I had night scares. I totally need some medicine when I wake up.
