It was bright and cold but I could feel something warm and soft. It was covering me all over, I never want to leave this feeling. But how short-lived that comfort seemed to be, cold seemed to seep through me, making me shiver. What was going on? I opened my eyes to see only blue. The blue was in multiple shades, swirling in and around me, sparkling here and there. The majestic sense it left was awe inspiring. I could stare at the tide of all that blue for hours...

It was a long time before I realized someone was here with me. They seemed very far away and I couldn't think of anything to do once I did get over to them. So I thought I would just keep watching the blue. But yet, something compelled me to go to them. I moved my front paw forward and pushed it back towards myself, opening it wide to catch the substance I was in. Not that doing that helped very much; my paws were made of bones. Small, bunched up bones with claws at the end, hardly taking up any space. I put that paw up to my eye and imagined something that would help me get over to the other being. Nothing seemed to happen, so I sighed and tried to move again anyway. I reached out and pushed against what I was in. My paw had some sort of webbing on it now and I was moving towards the only other thing here. I tried it again but with my opposite paw and my back legs. I kept pumping my limbs and moving to that being. Eventually I had gotten into a beat of how to move forward and before I knew it, I was right by the person... They were made of bones though, just like me, but yet, they were very different. We were shaped much different, they had cracks, many, many cracks, all over their body, and... they had something covering themselves. They had light-blue and white shoes, what looked like, very ripped baggy black pants, and a torn up white-purple gradient cloak. They seemed very special to me, for a reason I can not explain. The skeleton didn't seem to be conscious, they seemed like they were dead. If not for the tell-tale fact that they would have disappeared after death. So I was curious and I put my snout next to them to nudge them a bit. . . Nothing happened. I put my paw on them and pulled them back towards myself since they were starting to drift away. I held them almost like a mother would, and looked them over again. Those cracks looked very painful... maybe that was keeping them asleep, or maybe they were in a coma...

How would a skeleton go into a coma though?... or maybe...

...

I paused for a while, and listened for something, anything... I heard a faint beat, then another and another. I looked around, nothing else could be making the noise but the skeleton in my paws. I leaned towards them, but they were silent. Once I moved my head though, I realized it was coming from inside my ribcage. My paw instinctively went to my chest and, from where it lay, I could feel the beat of my soul through the bones. I wanted to see it, but even with my long neck I couldn't see clearly through the ribs at any angle. So I pondered what to do. I remembered how I imagined up the webbing, to help me move before, and I wondered if that would work again. I imagined my paw grabbing the soul and putting it before me. As I thought this, I curled my paw like it was already grabbing the soul, and pulled it forward. Coming behind my paw, my soul went through my ribs and stopped to float in front of them... It was enchanting. It's white inside with a surface of blue, glistened with it's releasing magic. I could see a string of that magic, connecting the soul to my being, continuing to keep its magic flow going through to me from that connection. But the connection now was much thinner than if the soul was inside me, I could feel it. I glanced away from my soul to the other skeleton and wondered if I could do the same thing to see their soul. But before trying that, I put my soul back in my ribcage where it felt less exposed and took up less space. Once I was done with that, I put my paw on top of the other skeleton's chest and tried to take out their soul.

. . .

Nothing happened.

So I tried again by lifting my paw above their chest, but still again; nothing happened. I was starting to get worried, but maybe the cloak was just... in the way? So, I carefully tried to take the cloak off of the being without tearing the cloth or hurting their wounds. And slowly, oh so slowly, the cloak came off. Having nowhere else to put the piece of clothing, I held onto it with my maw and looked the other skeleton over again. They seemed to have more cracks all over their chest than the rest of their body. I took, what copied, a sharp breath in at that sight, thinking of how much pain they might be in.

After a pause that felt like forever, I eventually put my paw up to their chest to try and take out their soul again. Again it didn't work. . . but this time I noticed a difference between me and them. With my soul, I could see the shape and glow of its magic, even from within my ribs, but then when I looked to them, I saw that their chest had no glow of magic. I looked closer and found that my fears were true.

This monster had no S O U L...
