The feeling of a singular drop of icy water rolling down my spine pulled me out of my daydream. I felt my eyes slightly widen as I realised that I was still sitting at the same old crooked park bench that I was resting on before dusk. I slowly slide my phone out of the front pocket of my ripped skinny jeans, squinting as i glance at the time. Well crap, it's already 11:45pm so I am officially dead. I practically snatch my school bag off of the damp concrete floor and sprint towards my house in the pouring rain. The rain drops became more rapid and more numbing, making all of my bones feel as though they have been suddenly stolen from my shivering body.I know I have to power through, I can't afford to be late again. I can't have any repeats of last time. No way of knowing what my father would do to me this time.
As I shoved the security door closed the strong aroma of cheap alcohol reached my nose. At that moment i felt my heart drop, I was felt like I was drowning, head underwater with my father edging me towards the end. I was dragged out of my thoughts by the heartstopping sound of glass smashing against the faux marble tiles. The instant I heard screaming, I backed away from the noise and slipped back outside. I know that he is going to be deadly mad tomorrow, but I cannot go back in there. I paused for a minute and grabbed my earphones out of my school bag and continued stumbling down the flooded street in the piercing rain.
I pressed my blood drained knuckles against the dripping wet wooden door, standing before me. I closed my eyes for a couple of seconds, embracing the sound of droplets of rain hitting the roof a couple of meters in front of me. It's so confusing that such a violent storm can bring such a strong wave of calmness over me.
"Alex? What are you doing here"
