My name is Poseidon, yes I know it isn't the best name, my parents did not have the proper names for me or my sister, Athena. I am 16 years old and the Apocalypse happened not 2 years ago. My sister was mortified when I held the gun up to my parents who had turned. But yet again, she is only 12. I promised her that I would always protect her, no matter the circumstances. The date for this date is February 10th 2021. The worst time scientists chose to "accidently" open the chamber that contained poisoned rats to the world. They infected almost every human, think about it 7.25 billion people, either infected with the Z-Virus, or dead.
The last time Athena and I saw a person that was unaffected was 8 months ago. They spoke of a place in the outskirts of Bryson City, North Carolina. It was rumored to have people that were immune to the virus and it was safe. But that person didn't last for long. You see, the virus is airborne and will infect anyone who isn't immune to it. The Z-trigger (my street name for the virus) took control of Evan and turned him. I shot him on the spot. I had no choice.
Ever since then Athena and I have been on the move towards North Carolina, and currently I have a safe spot for my lab in Marfa, Texas. I have been trying for 7 months to try to come up with a cure for the Z-trigger. I have been trying to get my samples into the body of the indigenous animals that live here. So far, none have worked. But...I know that I have to keep trying...because the last of the human race depends on it.
"Poseidon!" Athena sounds like a banshee, I swear. "What? You know I'm working right now!" I screamed. "Yes, but I think a Z is outside. I need you!" I grabbed my trusty M16 and ran up the stairs. There we saw a Zombie, Z for short. I heard the shuffling noises and the groaning of the Z's voice. I looked over the window. It was doing the waddle thing outside the door, I motioned Athena to get back.
I carefully opened the door and aimed my rifle at the Z's head. I positioned it carefully and shot. It went straight through the pupil and it flew right through, splattering blood everywhere. The Z fell to the ground. I shot it again, double tap, just a safety precaution. "Okay, Athena, it's safe now." She came out from her hiding spot. I went back downstairs to the lab.
