"Where am I? Is this heaven?" I'm in a large field of green grass full of bright beautiful flowers. Colorful hummingbirds speed by and bluebirds fill the field with their singing. Bees buzz by as they go from flower to flower. The sun fills the cloudless blue sky and shines down warming my skin.
A soft wind blows making the fabric of my dress flow in the wind. It's a simple but pretty light blue dress made of a soft material. The front dips in the shape of a V but doesn't show too much. A couple inches above my waist is subtly loosens and turns into a flowing fabric that's made of two layers. One is a sheer blue on the outside and underneath is a solid blue fabric. I can't see the back but I can tell some of my skin is exposed. I look down to my feet and notice I'm not wearing any shoes and the grass is cool against my bare feet.
"No, you're not in heaven." A deep voice says from behind me.
"Are you sure? Because you look like an angel." I say when I'm facing him. The suns light shines down on him making his brown eyes look almost translucent. His hair is a few shades lighter than mine between dark brown and black. Tan skin glows underneath his white shirt. His looks are plain but even so, he almost takes my breath away. A light layer of stubble lines the sharp edges of his jaw.
"I'm sure, I'm far from angelic." He steps closer to me closing the small gap the was separating us. I look down and notice that he's wearing light blue jeans and his feet are bare as well.
"Where are we? If you aren't an angel, then who are you and how am I alive? I felt the arrow pierce my heart. I should be dead."
"My name is Omari and I wish to be a friend. We are in your dream. I've been watching you for some time now. Like you I am a prophet. For years now I've been seeing you in my visions. Tonight, I saw that there was a possibility you were going to die but I also saw that you came back to life. I made sure to be there to help your friend, Zach I believe is his name. I convinced him that the arrow missed your heart and you were going to heal on your own as usual. It is important that you not tell people of this ability of yours."
"Why? How?" So many things are running through my mind. What the hell is happening to me? Why am I not dead? Why can't I die? Who is this man? Why do I need to keep it a secret?
"You're very special Jade but I'm sure you already know that? Without you, this world will die. Right now, you can't afford to trust anybody. Everyone is after you and the people you're with could be too."
"Why should I trust you?"
"You shouldn't. For all you know this could all be a trick but I hope in time you will learn to trust me. You're almost done healing and will wake up soon. If you need me all you need to do is fall asleep and think of me. This will keep us connected. I gave it to you when I helped your friend bring you home." He's holding my hand in his and on my ring finger is a metal band decorated with small crosses that have been cut into the metal.
Around us, the dream begins to crumble. The sky cracks apart and pieces fall. The once beautiful sky is now being replaced with darkness. Omari starts walking away but I grab his hand to stop him.
"Wait, do you know what I am? What's happening to me?"
"You'll learn in time." He turns back to me and tucks the strand of hair being whipped around by the wind behind my ear. The field of grass is falling away piece by piece. Everything is now almost pitch black. His hand caresses my cheek. "I'm glad I finally got to meet you, my dark angel."
My eyes open slowly and I squint at the light that surrounds me. God, I feel like shit. My chest aches but considering the alternative I'll deal with the ache. I rub my chest gently and start to slowly sit up.
