FIFTEEN
Ivey stumbled under the sudden weight as the humans body suddenly went limp as he passed out. It made the vampyre's around just stare in confusion. One minute the human had been fine, if a little unsteady, the next minute, he'd been gritting his teeth as noises of pain filled the air. And now, he was unconscious.
If he'd past out without the episode of pain, Jayden still wouldn't have blamed the human. Hell, he was considering joining the human and Ashley. If he could. Vampyre's – or originals – couldn't sleep. Jayden looked back at the human, he'd only recently come into their world... and had seen Ashley in her demonic form. Not many had seen that, not even himself, but the human had. And only a few months after realising what really existed in the world. But that was the thing, the human hadn't passed out through shock. This was a time when the humans words of "What The Hell" could be used.
Jayden shook himself. First, they'd been running to save Ashley's mate, and when they'd got to him, Ashley had shifted into a ten-foot-four horned, scaled and clawed demon. Then Ashley had been stabbed by an angel before passing out. And to top it off, Ashley had sent a message through her mate to them to contact the Brotherhood. And the cherry on the lovely cake? Ashley's mate had then started convulsing in pain before passing out. And now? Now no one had any idea of what to do.
"Let's take them back to the hotel," Jayden suggested to the vampyre's around him. It was the only thing he could think of. It wouldn't do any of them any good to let their originals mate die of hypothermia, his skin was already turning a light shade of blue. The colour it went after it had turned red in effort to warm the body up. Jayden watched Nick move over to the human and Ivey, placing his hand on the human, Jayden remembered that Nick's gift was fire. Jayden sighed mentally, at least that was one thing less to worry about the human dying from. After a couple of seconds, the humans skin tone started warming.
Briefly, Jayden wondered if Ashley had been lying about angels being able to kill her. Because she was still alive. And how did they know that? Because they weren't dead. Or at least, he didn't think he was. And Jayden knew through stories that vampyre's immediately turned to dust if their original was killed. So why hadn't they? Why was a mystery. Jayden glanced at the human who Ivey moved to hold easier. Maybe it was the human keeping her alive. She had drank from him. But how would a little human blood keep Ashley alive? Was it because Damon was her mate? No, Jayden decided, a mate's blood wasn't that strong. Or was it? It wasn't like he would know. He'd been with Catherine for the past three-hundred years. And she wasn't his true mate.
Pain hit Jayden where his beating heart stayed still unless he willed it to beat at the thought of his 'mate'. Ashley had known about it. That Catherine wasn't really his. He knew she did. Now that he thought about it, it explained a lot about the relationship his original and his 'mate' had. Had had, past tense. Catherine no longer existed to him. Jayden knew it was stupid, but he just couldn't understand how she could have lied to him after all this time. Jayden knew it wasn't Catherine's fault, and that if she'd chosen another, the one that had been chosen would have also had to go through the pain when they realised the truth. But her fault or not, he still blamed her. She didn't have to listen to her original. Of course, not listening would have resulted in her death. But...
"Jayden?" Micah's voice called Jayden out of his thoughts. Once Jayden looked at Micah, Micah continued. "Shall we tell the others?"
"Others?" Jayden asked, still trying to pull his head away from his 'mate' and back to the situation at hand.
"We're not Ashley's only vampyre's, Jayden," Micah reminded him.
Jayden looked at all the vampyre's around him, shrugging off the look Kayline was giving him from where she now stood next to Ivey who held Damon. Worry coated her features. For him. About him. For some reason Jayden felt uncomfortable with Kayline worried. She shouldn't have to worry. Especially not about him. He, who had brought a traitor to their front door. No, she shouldn't worry about him.
