As I was waiting for school to let out, I felt sweat dripping off my face. I could feel my throat getting tight, as if I was about to burst into tears. I was shaking, having a panic attack. Once the bell rang I walked outside to my blue Ford Expedition, opened the door and drove home. I went into the house trying not to make eye contact with my mom or my sister, but I guess my mom saw that something was up. "Hey, Sam. How was school?" She asked with one eyebrow up. "Great." I said not looking at her. I laid my book bag on the kitchen table and went to the fridge to grab a small bag of carrots. Im a Vegetarian, blood makes me very squeamish, and dizzy. "Oh Samantha dear, will you stop by Mamaw's to see how she is doing?" Sure, I sighed.
I arrived at Mamaw's house. I unlocked her door with the spare key she keeps under her welcome mat. I went inside to see her smiling at me with a huge grin on her face. "Hi, Samantha. Wow have you grown." She said looking up, and adjusting her little circular glasses. "Mamaw I just saw you yesterday." I laughed. I walked into the kitchen to see if she needed any groceries. Which she did. So I took out a $50 bill out of the back of my phone case. And a pen and paper from her craft room. I began writing down her grocery list. After shopping, I took Mamaw her groceries and went home. I walked in the house and smelled something burning, I started freaking out. Yeah. It was my sister trying to make dinner for my Dad's birthday. He had been dead about 3 and a half years now, and he would have been 43 today. My parents had me at a pretty young age. And my dad was in the army most of my childhood, or at least till my little sister Kaylee was born. On a rainy night in town, he lost control of the wheel, and a semi hit his car. The autopsy showed that he had been dead before the crash. I choose to believe that he had lost control of the wheel. Sometimes he even visits me in my dreams.
I had gone to bed shortly after. But I woke up and checked my clock. 3:04 am I walked into the hallway, thirsty as could be. So I went to the bathroom and filled up a glass of water. I heard something downstairs. So I grabbed my sisters Softball bat which was in the bathroom closet. As I tip-toed down to the living room, I saw what appeared to be my Mamaw? I dropped the bat and walked up to her. "Umm Mamaw? What are you doing here? Its 3 in the morning." I said. She slowly turned around to reveal glowing purple eyes. And her voice, wasn't my Mamaw's. I was very concerned about the whole thing. I went to grab my mom from upstairs, but when I looked back at Mamaw, she was gone. I guess I had gone back to bed after, Because I woke up the next morning in my bed. Was it a dream? I thought to myself. I went downstairs and saw the bat sitting in the place I put it. I grabbed the phone and called my Mamaw. No answer. I told my mom what had happened. But guess what...she didn't believe me. "Sam, can you go wake Kaylee up?" Mom asked. So I went upstairs and knocked on the door, it creaked opened with not a soul inside. I began to panic as I ran to my mom with my face fiery hot.
