Chapter 1: Watched

*Lyla's POV*

"Mom, I'll be fine! I'm just going for a sleepover at Ali's house, I'll be back tomorrow. Chill out. It's not like any boys are gonna be there."

"I know sweetie, it's just, I don't feel good about you going to this thing. Maybe you should stay home tonight..."

"Mom! You already promised me I could go, and like you always say, never go back on a promise!"

I heard my mother sigh. "You're right. I'm being ridiculous. Have a good time sweetie."

I gave my mom a hug and walked out the door, keys in hand. I heard her yelling out the door at me, "Be careful honey! Don't drive to fast!"

I rolled my eyes. She said this every time I went somewhere. "Okay Mom, I won't."

I climbed into my car and put the key into the ignition. I turned the key and heard the purr of the engine.

Man do I love that sound.

I shifted gears and backed out of the driveway. Ali only lived a few roads over, so it was only about a 5 minute drive until I parked by the sidewalk in front of her house.

I stepped out of the car and walked up to the door. a lifted my hand up to knock but before I had the chance Ali opened the door and pulled me inside.

"Oh my gosh Lyla don't you know it's not safe to be outside all willy-nilly like that?!"

"Hold on slow down! What do you mean it's not safe?"

Ali got closer and whispered to me, "There are vampires on this street."

I threw my head back in laughter. "You've got to be kidding me."

Then I looked back at her and realized just how serious she was being. Holy crap, are vampires really out there?!

"Lyla, I wish I was joking around, but I'm not. You've got to be more careful out there! in fact, I saw that Zayn character staring at you as you mosied your way up the sidewalk. You don't want him to catch you. I've heard he's really bad news."

"Really? I didn't see anybody outside earlier..."

"Why do you think I got you inside so fast? I saw him looking at you and the last time he had his eye on somebody, she disappeared the next day."

"Oh my gosh are you serious? That's terrible!"

"Yeah I know. She was a really nice girl. Her name was Perrie. She lived next door. One day we were outside talking, the next, she was just... gone."

"But wait..." I was beginning to put two and two together. "if he was watching me, does that mean that he's...

After me?"
