Promises break sometimes( Devin Oliver)

Chapter 1: the promise

"Tag, you're it!" Devin yells. He then quickly darts away from me laughing .
"I'm going to get you, Devin!" I yell, chasing after him. I was right behind Devin, until I tripped over a tree root that was coming out of the ground. I quickly put my arms out in front of me to stop myself from hitting my face on the ground.
"you okay Casey ?" Devin asked , clearly concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I say while examining my hands to check if I had any cuts. I soon heard a laugh in the distance. I turn around to find Devin's older brother , Andrew .
" hahaha, had a nice trip?" Andrew laughed.
"Go away Andrew, no one asked for you." Devin said while helping me up.
Andrew was always kinda mean to me. He would always tell me how clumsy I am, and how dumb I am. I never really liked him, but I always was nice to him. Today was Devin's birthday. Devin officially turns 10 today. The big double digits. I was still 9. My birthday is on April 25, 10 days after Devin's. We were playing in the backyard , waiting for the rest of Devin's friends to come over. I'm Devin's neighbor, so I came by early. We all go inside to get some water. Mrs. Oliver was inside setting up for the party. People should be showing up soon. The party starts at 2, and its 1:50.
" mom, please. Just let me invite Shane and Jackson over. I don't want to deal with a bunch of ten year olds." Andrew complains.
Andrew is two years older than Devin. Andrew doesn't like hanging out with people younger than him, it makes him feel " uncool ". The only young people he hangs out with is Devin , and any of his younger cousins.
"Fine Andrew , they can come over. They have to be gone by 5 though, okay?" Mrs. Oliver says.
"Yes ma'am!" Andrew says happily.
He quickly walk by me, purposely bumping into me . I look at him confused on why he would do that, but he just walks away with a smirk on his face.
Devin and I wait out in the front for his friends. Soon, cars started to role in. About ten minutes latter, all of the people that Devin invited were here. We all go to the backyard and jump on the trampoline. After running around and playin for about an hour, Devin's mom calls us inside to sing "happy birthday". We all sing , and Devin starts opening his presents. He gets a lot of action figures and some shirts. He then gets to my present
" I always save the best for last." He says looking at me.
All of his friends start yelling eww, some of them even made kissing faces. It was well known that Devin has a crush on me. I always tell people that I don't like him, but I actually do. I'm just scared that we would lose our amazing friendship if we start dating. And plus, I'm a little too young to date. At least to my mom and dad. They said I can't have a boyfriend until I'm 16. I probably will have one before that time though. Devin then starts opening the present I got him. He finds the card and puts that down. He usually reads them after the party is over. He pulls out some shirts that I knew he would like, a video game that he have been wanting for the past month, and a picture collage I made of me and him. We have been friends since the age of 5. I'm kind of a huge art geek, so this collage was fun to make. These were all pictures his and my mom took of me and him.
All of his friends start to make kissing faces again, some even faked gaged.
" you guys should just go ahead and date" Josh, one of Devin's friends, yelled.
We all laughed, and Devin's cheeks started to get red. After eating cake and ice cream, we all go back outside to play. It was soon time for everyone to leave. I gotten to stay over cause both of my parents are working. My dad is a police officer, and my mom is a nurse. Devin's mom always offers to watch me , so my parents won't have to pay for a babysitter. I help Devin bring his stuff up to his room. We sit in his room and start thinking of places to put the picture collage. We finally find a place to put the picture. We then start playing video games. After a while a playing and screaming every time we would lose, I went to go downstairs to get water. I found Andrew downstairs watching tv. His friends left an hour ago. He looks at me and smirks
" Don't get near me, your dumbness might rub off on me." He says
" trust me", I say while filling my cup up with water" I wouldn't get near you even if my life depended on it."
He then ignores me and continues to watch tv. Right as I was about to go back upstairs, the doorbell ranged. It was my mom here to pick me up. I run upstairs to tell Devin that i was leaving. I give Devin a hug and start to head downstairs.
"Wait, Devin yells, " I know we've been friends for 5 years, but I want you to promise me something."
"What?" I ask.
" I want you to promise me that you would always be friends. No matter what happens between us, we will still be there for each other ." He says while looking me in the eyes.
"I promise." I say while we locked our pinkies together
I then ran downstairs to my mom ready to go home.
I get home and take my shower and get ready for bed. I think about Devin's promise before I go to bed. Being friends forever is pretty hard to do. What if we grow tired of each other, what if we get into a huge argument? I sometimes wish I never go along with promises, because promises break sometime. I slowly start drifting off to sleep with the thought in my head. What if this promise breaks? What if we don't stay friends forever? Within a matter of minutes, I was asleep.

Sorry that this chapter was probably sucky. This is my first time writing a story
