Wednesday
James, Louis and Lorcan were walking down the hall together. They were discussing the upcoming Quidditch match between the Hollyhead Harpies and the Appleby Arrows.
"You're insane J," Louis was saying, "It's totally gonna be the Harpies. Their Seeker is one of the best in the league."
"Yeah, maybe," James responded, "but their Keeper is gonna get crushed by the Arrows' Chasers."
"You guys are both wrong," laughed Lorcan, "It's gonna be the Arrows, but it'll be the Harpies who catch the Snitch. Just like what happened at the Quidditch World Cup in 1994."
"Oh yeah!" exclaimed Louis, "Uncle George told me all about that. Apparently he and his twin brother collected bets on what the outcome of the game would be. He said that he and his brother were spot on about the result, but they got ripped off by a bunch of leprechauns!"
The boys were cracking up. Lorcan loved hearing stories about his best friends' family, almost as much as James and Louis loved telling them. Lorcan had a few good stories to tell also. Like the time his mother fought alongside Harry Potter and his best friends at the Ministry of Magic. Or the time she helped Harry find the lost diadem of Ravenclaw at the Battle of Hogwarts. Their families were still very close now. James and Louis were cousins and Lorcan's mother was James' godmother. Not to mention, Lorcan's twin brother had a huge crush on James' sister.
The three of them continued laughing and talking about Quidditch as they walked through the halls. James wasn't paying attention to where he was walking and-CRASH! He walked head first into some Hufflepuff girl and knocked them both to the ground. She was carrying a large armful of books, which were now scattered across the floor.
"Sorry," the girl mumbled. Squinting, she got on her hands and knees and started moving her hand all around the floor in front of her. James realized that when they collided, he also managed to knock her glasses off of her face.
"No, don't be. It was my fault," said James. He grabbed her glasses and placed them on her face for her. She looked up and he was able to get a good look at her. She had long, wavy brown hair with some freckles on her cheeks and a little bit of acne on her forehead. She wasn't exactly pretty, unless you bothered to look closely. James happened to be looking very closely. She looked like she had a nice smile (it was hard to tell since she wasn't smiling now) and her eyes... James had never seen eyes like hers before. They were emerald green with what seemed to be turquoise mixed in and little flecks of brown.
James realized that he had been staring at her for a long time and averted his gaze back to the floor. Now that the girl could see clearly, she began picking up her books as fast as she could. James wanted to help so he started to pick up a book but accidentally placed his hand right on top of hers. She quickly pulled her hand away and took the book from him. James got to his feet and offered the girl his hand but she didn't take it. She stood up by herself, careful not to look James, or any of his friends in the face.
"Thanks," she said quickly and quietly.
"No problem..." James began, but she was already leaving. He found himself staring after her, even after she was out of sight he was still looking.
"Who was that?" James asked. He was very intrigued by this mystery girl.
"That was umm... What's her name, Abby?" said Lorcan.
"Ashley," corrected Louis.
"Right! Ashley Cummings, Hufflepuff," Lorcan paused, "Isn't she in our potions class?"
"Yeah, she is," answered Louis, "She's that girl who always sits in back with her face burried in a book. She still manages to get top marks though. I don't know how she does it!"
