One Step Closer?

Emilys curls bounced up and down as she ran into the police station.

"What have you found?" She asked running up to Rebecca out of breath.

"Emily," she said slowly.

"What do you need us to look at?" daniel asked running up behind Emily.

"Follow me," Rebecca said walking into the corridor.

Her face was stern and her face was full of worry and sadness which was worring Emily and Daniel greatly.

"As I said on the phone, I need to two of you to indentify something for us," she said.

The walked into a small dark roon where something was lying on the table.

"Are these Thomas' clothes?" Rebecca asked pointing to the garments on the table.

Emily dropped her handbag and it made a loud thud on the ground. She walked forward to the table and picked up the blue onesie, holding it close to her face. She looked over at the tiny white beanie and the white blanket also sitting on the table.

"Emily do they belong to him?" Rebecca asked again.

She nodded slowly and buried her face into the clothing, like it could help her connect with her baby. She broke down in tears and fell to the floor in a heap. Daniel was quietly standing in the doorway crying himself and slowly moved forward to help Emily up.

"I hate to say it to you both, but it is my job to tell you that with no clothing or blankets its very unlikley we will find him alive," Rebecca said softly.

Both Daniel asd Emily broke down completly in each others arms. This was the closest they had come to finding Thomas, yet it wasnt a good thing his clothes were found. Instead it was just a message that if he wasnt found soon he would die of the cold.

"Where did you find these?" Daniel chocked picking up the blanket.

"8km from where the hire car was at the time he was taken," Rebecca explained.

"You need to find him," he said desperatly.

"Daniel, you know we will do whatever we can but it is nearing dark and we stop searching after sunset, until dawn and there is light. I have to prepare you by letting you know that if he is still alive, unless he had been clothed again and is sheltered there is only a 1% chance he will survive tonight. He is sick as it is. To have him in the middle of the bush fully naked and without shelter could easily be the last straw," she said softly.

Emily stopped crying and was quietly huddled into Daniels chest.

"Thank you for coming in. We will do our best," Rebecca said leading them out.

"Thankyou for trying," Daniel said sahking her hand.

"I'll be in touch."
