Spirit Seeker

Chapter 3

His mouth was agape. "What the....." He walked over to where I was standing and ran his fingers over the marks. 

Swirls, dots, lines, and other designs covered my arms, beautifully. They all matched and flowed neatly down my arms. 

"When did you do this?" Zero asked, completely stunned. 

"I was born with it, I'm the reason they're dead." I replied solemnly. 

"Who?" 

"Everyone in my village" 

"Oh. I'm sorry." 

"I was only 8 years old, when it happened. The Queen was relentless in trying to find me, then Aiden found me and took me in. He was like a father to me." My voice started to crack.

"Who's Aiden?"

"Leader of the resistance" Spirits, I was telling him to much.

"Oh. Can I join?" He asked which I practically had a heart attack. 

"Why would you want to resist the Queen, you could get caught and tortured, or even die." I replied.

"Because, she killed my family. We had lots of money, but didn't give it to the Queen. She killed my mom, dad, and brothers in front of me. She didn't even bother killing me though, just left me on the street."

I knew I had a terrible past but this kid tore my heart out.

"Oh I am sorry. We should get some rest before it's to dark to see."

He nodded as a tear fell down his face but quickly wiped it off.

After we got settled I instantly fell asleep, dreaming of what the earth would look like with the Seasons again.

Just a note you pronounce Zero's name Zay row. But you can pronounce it any way you like.

When I woke up the sun has just over the horizon.

I looked over at Zero. Still asleep and snoring; loudly.

I packed all my supplies and found Boomerang not far from where we were along with Kaspara. 

I led them back to our little camp site and tied them to a tree. Then I went to wake up Zero. He was breathing evenly then suddenly he jumped at me.

Instinctively I reached for my knife but stopped midway. 

"Ha! I got you!" He laughed. I punched him in the arm.

" Don't do that again or next time I will get my knife" I warned, but still he laughed.

When he was done packing his things he mounted Kaspara after untying her from the tree.

I untied Boomerang and mounted. I looked in the direction of the city and saw about a dozen men on different colored horses. White, black, tan, brown, grey and dark brown. All headed for us. 

"Lets go Zero someone found us." I said and he nodded

"Okay I don't like getting chased" 

"Well get used to it one, your with me, and two your now in the resistance." I said and clicked my tongue telling Boomerang to go in full gallop. Soon followed by Kaspara.

After a while I looked back and they were still chasing us.

"Persistent aren't they?" he asked, 

"Yeah they don't know when to give up. But they are gaining pretty quickly." I added.

I looked ahead and saw a ravine. But two wide to jump. 

"What the heck, just my luck" I whispered to myself angrily.

"Your life or theirs?" I asked Zero as we came up to  the ravine. 

"Mine" He answered.

"Good, now take this and defend your self with it." I said handing him my sword.

"But I don't know how to use it"

"Just swing and pray." 

"Okay," 

I drew my knives and dismounted Boomerang. I looked over my shoulder and saw Zero dismounting Kaspara. 

The men were to us in minutes

"Decided to give up did you?" One of them asked.

I smirked, "Just the opposite, actually." 

"Well you got yourselves into a fight you can't win, hope you know that." Another stated

"Funny I was going to say that to you," I retorted.

 They all dismounted there horses which was the absolute dumbest thing I could think of to do when fighting. 

"One on one?" I asked, "Or two on one, two of us one of you?" 

They thought about that for a moment.

"One on one" then to his comrades, "I'm first"

I took a wild guess and decided that that was their leader, I kill him they high tail it out of here. At least that was my plan.

I stepped forward, "I will go first, too." I looked at Zero and whispered, "If you think I'm losing the fight mount Boomerang and run you got that?" I asked and he handed me my sword.

"Okay, but only if we switch" I nodded and switched weapons with him. Honestly I was glad he did that, I much prefer sword that knife.

"Okay, Begin"  a man said behind there leader.

He leaped at my with a well made sword, but mine was better. I deflected his attack to my hip by flattening my sword. He charged again, but this time I moved and swung at his arm. Blood started staining his clothes.

He growled in pain then swung at me. I deflected then hit again. connecting with his sword arm. Out of the corner of my eye something silver flew towards my head. I knocked it away with my sword, just barely.

"Looks like you have some cheaters." I growled, suddenly my senses enhanced like they did when I stood up to the man about to kill Zero. Then I realized that my senses never nullified from then.

"You can all attack me, you still won't win" I commented.

"Well we'll just have to see about that, may we?" He asked.

"Of course be my guest, but only if he can leave. Not harmed" I said motioning to Zero

"Yes he may go unharmed," He said glaring at his men. 

I walked over to Zero, "No, Z I don't want to go, they'll kill you!" he hissed.

"Please, Zero, I don't want you to get hurt. Please, I will find you. I promise" I said

He showed in his expression that he didn't want to leave, "Okay, I will"

"Thank you, now go and hurry, I don't think we should trust these people" He nodded, turned and mounted Boomerang and was off down the ravine, Boomerang running next to it.

I turned and stood in a defensive position. They charged, weapons drawn ready to kill.
