Episode 1: The Case of the Missing Girl

            Five more minutes. That’s all it took. Five more minutes, and finally Raven Nikolson was out of school. She watched the clock hands move. It was much more interesting than the current lecture being given by her math teacher, Mr. Williams. She twisted her long, black hair around her skinny finger, and her deep, forest green eyes wandered to her best friend, Loralei Lockwood.

            Loralei was as tall, skinny, and beautiful as Raven; but, Loralei had brown hair, that shone red in the sun, and fell down to her waist. She had ice blue eyes and white skin that matched Raven’s. Loralei was a good student, and always paid attention to the lecture, one of the biggest differences between Raven and her.

            Raven watched as the last few seconds of the clock ticked down. As the red hand neared the eleven o’clock mark, she packed up her bag, and as soon as the bell rang, she jumped out of her seat. Loralei had barely even finished packing up her stuff before Raven was pulling her out the door of the classroom, and then out the front doors of the school.

            As soon as Raven and Loralei felt the warmth from the outdoors, Raven dropped Loralei’s arm, and stood in contentment for a moment, enjoying the heat radiating from the sun. “Someone was eager to get home today,” Loralei joked. “Not to get home, just to get out of that class,” Raven replied with a small smile.

            “Well, you know if you actually tried to pay attention in his class, you might not have a 2.0 GPA,” Loralei teased. “Hey...You know that it’s a 2.4!” Raven responded with a small smirk. “Yeah, yeah, come on, let’s just go home,” Loralei said. Raven and Loralei lived about thirty minutes away, walking. Their houses were just through the woods, and since they lived so close to each other, they always walked back home together.

            Raven and Loralei started walking on the same path they took every day to get home, when suddenly Loralei said, “Hey, there’s supposed to be a small lake around here, did you know that?” “Really?” Raven asked, looking around to see if she could catch a glimpse of the lake.

“Yeah, it’s supposed to be somewhere over there,” Loralei replied, pointing to the right of the two. “Let’s go find it,” she continued, starting to walk in the direction she had just pointed towards. Raven was by her side in a moment, helping her look for the lake.

            They kept searching for the body of water, not realizing how much time had passed, and how lost they were. “Hey Lor, it’s really pretty out here, but we should start heading home. I don’t think we’re going to find the lake today,” Raven told her friend. Loralei looked disappointed for a moment, and then nodded her head, replying, “Yeah, you’re probably right, let’s go.”

            They were walking back to their typical path, silently, when suddenly they heard a noise. It sounded like a soft whisper, too soft to understand what it was saying. “Do you hear that?” Loralei asked Raven in a whispered tone of voice. Raven’s face flushed as she nodded her head.

            They stood still, and silent, and the whisper became louder and louder until Raven and Loralei could clearly hear what it was saying. It sounded like a ton of voices, unifying to say one thing, over and over again, “Stay with us.” It sounded as if the whisper was coming from underneath the ground. “We need to get out of here,” Raven told Loralei. Loralei responded by nodding her head.

            But as soon as they took one step, they heard a louder voice. It was a beautiful, soft, feminine voice, and as soon as she spoke, the whispers stopped. “Please, stay with us, we’re lonely,” the voice said. Loralei and Raven made eye contact, and all of a sudden, Loralei was being dragged into the woods. “Loralei!” Raven screamed. Then the whispers started again, repeating the phrase they always did.

            Raven saw the woman who was taking Loralei. It was one of the most beautiful women Raven had ever seen. She had long blonde hair, with a crown of flowers placed on top of it; however, as the abductor turned around, so that her back was facing Raven, she noticed that the woman had a tail that resembled a cow’s.

            Raven was so confused and afraid. All she could hear were her friend’s cries for help, and all she could do was run. She didn’t know where she was running, she just knew that she had to get far away from that place. It took her twenty minutes to sprint out of the woods, and when she did, she ran into town.

            She immediately found the police station and ran in. “Please, you have to help me! My friend was taken in the forest!” Raven yelled as tears streamed down her face. The sheriff came running up to her and asked, “What’s your name?” “Raven,” she replied. “Okay, Raven, tell me everything.”

            “My friend was taken by the Whisperers,” she told the Sheriff. “The Whisperers?” he asked. “They are these voices, they sounded like children, and they came from underneath the ground. They kept asking me and Loralei to stay with them, and when we didn’t, one of them took her,” she explained.

            The Sheriff had a look of complete disbelief on his face, and she pressed on, saying, “Look, I know it sounds crazy, but my friend is out there. We need to go find her!” Raven told him. The Sheriff nodded his head and told her, “Okay, kid, why don’t you sit down, you’ve been through a lot. My team and I will go find your friend.”

            Raven hated the idea of just sitting there while her best friend was in danger; but, despite her protests, one of the officers made her sit down. As they called her parents, Raven sat there with dried up tears on her face, and thought about Loralei. What if they didn’t find her? What if they never found her? Raven sniffled a little bit, wiping the remainder of tears from her eyes, and whispered to herself, “I'm so sorry, Loralei.”
