As she walked through the park, Marie suddenly started to feel her thoughts become vague and drowsy. A small smile began making its way onto her face as she realized what was happening.

It’s finally kicking in, she thought to herself and just like that she was suddenly soaring.

The feeling of euphoria engulfed her and she suddenly found it hard to keep herself upright. She only hoped she could find her way home considering she was struggling with her clouded vision and jumbled thoughts.

Marie felt so at peace that she easily found herself get intoxicated by the sound of rustling leaves. The path Marie was following seemed to get longer whenever she took a simple step but being as she was, she felt too heavenly to care. Interrupting the soothing effect the sound of rustling leaves gave her, she thought she began to hear the crunching of leaves and slight sound of footsteps.

They’re probably my own, she said and with that she felt herself slip back into her euphoric world.

As time went by, Marie heard the footsteps begin to quicken, making the sound seem to echo through the park. She could no longer ignore the footsteps she was sure were behind her and without thinking she turned around. She saw a tall male figure behind her and slowly saw him point his fingers at her in a gun-like manner. She let out a small gasp and quickly turned around, covering her mouth.

Everything in her mind told her to run but unfortunately her body struggled to do just that. She had no doubt in her mind that the stranger behind her was coming for her and the fear started to build up in her chest. As she attempted to run, she felt the world around her slow down and slowly suffocate her. As much as Marie pushed and tried, she couldn’t quite run. Turning around, she saw the figure was only a few steps away from her. She cried out in panic and finally managed to run. She stumbled as she made her way across the rocky path and soon felt her mind get cloudy and her legs start to wobble.

She was so tired and felt her body slow down. She couldn’t hold on anymore. Marie struggled to protest against her body’s shutdown but the more she struggled, the more tired she became. She suddenly dropped to her knees and could only hear the footsteps directly behind her. The rustling and crunching of leaves seemed to begin to once again pull her into euphoria but before she could go back, the figure came up behind her.

She felt him gently touch her head before quickly grabbing a handful of her hair. The grip on her hair made her look up at him and she noticed him turn his head slightly, as if confused, when he saw her tear stained face. The confusion on his face quickly left and he rapidly pulled his gun out. Kicking and screaming, she began to try scrambling away but the grip on her hair kept her in place.

“Shh, don’t cry. I really don’t want to have to hurt you. I’m going to let go of your hair and I want you to stay still, okay? Listen to me or else I’ll be forced to use my gun, understand?” said the man. Marie slowly nodded and felt him release her hair. She was so scared, she could barely move and remained kneeling. Marie slowly bowed her head as she silently cried in fear as she waited for his next move.

Quickly, before she could even react, she felt the cold tip of the gun brush against her bare back and a loud gunshot sound rip through the park. Her body slumped forward and hit the floor while her blood soon began to pool around her. The stranger stood there looking at the back of the dying girl and slowly put his gun away. Disregarding the blood reaching the tip of his shoes, he slowly walked away toward the darkest part of the park, leaving Marie alone to die.
