I blushed profusely and looked around the diner. The big dramatic scene that had just transpired had no effect on anyone. Well, there wasn't really anyone around, except for the waitress. But she was just sitting at the counter playing on her phone. After quickly realizing that no one paid attention I put my arms around Lucas and kissed him on the lips. He was surprised at first but didn't pull away. In fact he kissed me back.
It's funny how amazing is seemed. In all reality it was a really sloppy kiss, and it only lasted for a few seconds, but it was one of the best things that's happened to me. When our moment of bliss ended we didn't say anything at first. We just looked into each other's eyes and enjoyed the moment. It was kinda silly, but my teenage heart couldn't help but think it was romantic. He smiled disarmingly and asked timidly if I wanted something to eat. Not the most romantic thing to say, but it had the same effect. Give me food and I'll love you forever, especially if it's late at night and I haven't had a decent thing to eat all day.
I walked over to the table and gracefully managed to slip on a piece of paper. Lucas was quick though, and he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him before I had a chance to fall. "Oops, I forgot about the flyers," he said shyly, letting go of my hand. I blushed and then helped him pick up the flyers. It really made me feel good to see that he had made all of them for me. After we got them all together we took a seat at the booth and he called the waitress over. "Hey Roxy can we get something to eat?"
The waiter, Roxy, looked up from her phone and rolled her eyes. "Finally. You've been sitting there all night kid, it's about time you ordered something." Then we ordered.
We both got cheeseburgers and fries, and a coke to drink. The food was delicious. As I ate I looked up at Lucas. I could tell he had questions, but he was polite enough to let me finish first. When I was done I wiped my mouth with my napkin and said, "Well I'm guessing you have questions. You might as well ask them."
He chuckled and said, "Nah, you've been through enough. Your probably tired, so I can just ask tomorrow. Do you wanna go back to my place? My dad's a cop so he can help get everything sorted out."
I nodded so he pulled out some money and left it on table. Then we left. Once outside Lucas grimaced and guiltily said, "I didn't actually drive over so we have to walk. I'm sorry, I know your probably tired."
"It's okay, don't be sorry. I like walking anyway," I said. Then we walked to his house silently. The silence was comfortable, and I was sorta glad we didn't talk. I didn't really feel like reliving the past few days until I absolutely had too. As we walked someone drove beside us and beeped their horn. It made me jump in fright. For half a second I thought it was Gothel finally catching up with me, but it turned out to be one of Lucas' friends. Lucas waved at them and they passed. I immediately felt embarrassed for being scared, even more so when I realized I had grabbed Lucas' hand. Blushing, I started to pull away, but he just smiled at me and squeezed my hand as a reassurance that it was okay. I quietly sighed in relief and we walked the rest of the way holding hands.
When we got to his house his parents were waiting at the door. The woman that I assumed was his mother scolded him saying, "Lucas you stayed out really late we were worried..." Then she noticed me. Her eyes widened and she asked, "Is this the friend that went missing?" Lucas nodded his head and she scolded him once again, although this time she had a smile on her face. "Well then why are you still standing there? Invite the poor girl in!"
I smiled warmly at her, and Lucas and I walked inside. Their house was really nice, and once inside we all went into the living room. Lucas sat down on the couch, so I did too. I felt kinda awkward, but I hoped it wasn't showing. I hoped his parents liked me. His dad sat down and his mom asked if I wanted anything to eat. I told her thanks, but no thanks and she smiled in response. Then his dad spoke up.
"Hi, I'm Lucas' father John, and this," he said gesturing to his mother, "is his mom Joanne. If you want you can sleep in Lucas' room. He can take the couch," he said with a laugh.
"Are you sure?" I asked nervously. I thought it was really nice that they offered, but I didn't wanna be a burden.
His mom, Joanne rolled her eyes playfully and cheerily replied, "Of course we're sure. Come on, I'll show you where it is."
"Thanks!" I said as I stood up to follow her. Before we left the room I turned around and gave Lucas what I hoped was a dazzling smile. I softly said, "Goodnight," then turned back around to follow his mom. She led me up the stairs to his room and told me that she'd wake me up in the morning and to ask if I needed anything. Once she closed the door I looked around and chuckled softly.
His room was covered in Star Wars stuff. The Death Star was painted on one wall, and his bed was full of Star Wars pillows and blankets. He was such a nerd. I felt kinda weird sleeping in his bed, but I was too tired to really care that much. As soon as my head hit the pillows I was out.
When I woke up in the morning everything was peaceful. No bad dreams had tormented me and this all wasn't just a dream. I got up with a smile on my face and went to the bathroom that was right outside Lucas' room. I was embarrassed to realize that I didn't have any clothes to change into since I threw the other ones away, and I didn't have a brush to fix my hair with. I didn't even have a toothbrush! I walked out of the bathroom and back to Lucas' room, but before I reopened the door his mother startled me. "Hi, I heard someone moving around. I figured it was you. You don't have any clothes or anything, do you?"
I looked at the ground and shook my head no. When I looked back up Joanne was smiling. "Well then that gives me an excuse to go shopping then," she said grabbing my hand and pulling me downstairs.
