I wake, finding myself at the edge of the bed. I feel the canvas positioned under my body, but my arm is in a wierd position. I roll over and force my eyes open. Trees. Trees everywhere.
My bow is stowed at my side, with a quiver full of arrows. My mind becomes filled with possibilities about where I am. I can't make sense of it. The trees bend and sway, and whisper through the soft wind.
That's when I hear it. The screams.
" Katniss! KATNISS!" the girl screams. Is it rues? Is it Prims? Or is it Effie...calling my name in the Capitol, at the reaping?
But my body moves faster than I expect, slicing through the dense forest. My bow is loaded. Always loaded. Ready to shoot.
When I get to the clearing i see not Rue, nor Effie, but Prim. Sweet Primrose caught up in the net, wrestling to get out. I run to her, and cut the net away shushing her, " someone will hear us, shh. "
She goes up into my arms, and stays there. I brush her hair with my fingers, and just hold her. " Katniss, I was running from-". Her sentence gets cut off with a rustling in the trees. The boy, the boy. Marvel.
He's already ahead of me, spiraling into the opening with a spear in his hand. He tosses it, and while it's in the air, I shoot. My arrow makes it's home in his..leg. He winces, but doesn't stop tumbling toward me.
He tackles me, and throws me to the ground. I'm not strong, but I manage to fight back. I hit him, right in the nose. He stumbles back. But he doesn't quit fighting me. He is stronger. He is stronger. He..is...
The knife enters my gut before I can look at prim one last time, or even see something beautiful. He twists the knife, and it should be painful. But it's not painful, it is numb. He smirks and pulls the knife away. "Your done, Girl On Fire."
Suddenly, I'm back in my bedroom. In my bed, my warm bed. Peeta lays beside me probably having the same dream. The dream of fear.
I wake up Peeta just in case he is. I would want someone to wake me anyway. He looks at me when he comes too and says, " You ready?" he asks. Yes I'm ready, I promised him I would be ready. Today I am finally ready. Ready to visit the graves. The graveyard in the Capitol for all the districts deaths in the games.
I can't make myself get up, but I do, because I can't live my life in d12 all the time. I can't not see my sisters grave, or any of my allies.. They were more like my friends.
The hovercraft will be here in an hours time, so I get going. I brush my teeth and comb my hair, even wash it.
My body aches badly, so I take a tablet to soothe it. Since everybody is sharing recources now we can have medicine, and hot water, but most of all food.
Families can expect a meal every night since the Hunger Games are over. Also we have no mines anymore, and people even have cars to ride in. They are old and rusty, but still, get you somewhere.
I first go to the boys room, and jump over toys as I make my way to his bed. His body is slung to the right side, and he's in such a deep sleep I wouldn't doubt it if he was dead. I shake his arm and kiss him on the forehead, his eyes, Peeta's eyes, flutter awake.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, little duck?"
"Where are you going?"
" To the Capitol for a day, that's all."
He gives me a look of confusion. " Why the capitol?"I haven't yet put my hair in a braid yet, so it clings to my face, wet and sticky. I tuck one side behind my ear. "It'll be alright little duck, Grandmother is going to watch you."
