Austin’s POV

10:58 AM

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I circled around the visitor’s parking lot. Dammit. There were no available parking spaces. I checked the clock, 10:58. I growled in frustration. Why the hell were there no parking spaces? I ran my hand through my hair and heaved a sigh. I guess I would park across the street. I turned the car and exited the visitor’s parking lot.
Beeeeeeeeep!
Oh shut the fuck up, you old hag.
Across the street there was a McDonalds. I quickly entered the McDonald’s parking lot and parked the red Range Rover. It was 11:01. The second the car was parked and locked and I had grabbed Scarlett's gift, I dashed towards the hospital.
It was 11:04.
“Hi I’m here to visit-” I started to say.
“Austin!” A voice called from behind.
I turned around and saw Scarlett’s sister, Maddi and her husband… Robert? No, Richard. And he was carrying their little baby. “Hey.” I greeted. I smiled.
The lady at the desk asked, “Mrs. Madison is this young man with your family?” Her voice sounded as ancient as she looked. Her hair was stark white and her pale blue eyes stood out from her wrinkled and aged skin.
“Yes he is, Margo. Put his name down, he’s Austin Mahone.” She walked towards the check-in desk.
“Austin Mahone, eh?” The old lady sounded amused and she chuckled. She looked at me, “Do you happen to be the same Austin Mahone that teen girls marvel over?” She gave me a wrinkled smile.
“Uh, I guess yes.” I scratched my head and shifted uncomfortably. “Yes, I’m the singer.” I stated more confidently.
“Tell you what sonny, I’ll let you pass if you sign something for my niece. She loves you!” The old lady crowed and held out a piece of paper and pen. “Make it out to Tiffanii- with two 'i's not a 'y'.”
“Sure.” I quickly scrawled- to my number one fan, Tiffanii, I love you. Much love- Austin Mahone. “Here,” I thrust the piece of paper back towards her.
She took the paper with a smile, “you may pass.” She tagged my wrist with a bright visitors pass.
“How nice,” Maddi murmured. “Her niece is going to be very happy and jealous of her. Margo is such a sweet old lady.” She chuckled and then directed her attention towards Richard, “babe I can take Troy.”
Richard handed her the baby. “Go to mama.” He cooed at the little boy.
“Mama.” Troy laughed and clapped his chubby hands.
“He said mama!” Maddi looked ecstatic. “He called me mama!” She turned towards me, “did you hear him?” She gushed.
“Yes I did.” I smiled at the baby and gave him a tiny wave. “Hey, Troy. How you doing?”
“Mama.” The baby squealed.
Maddi’s face broke into a wide smile and her eyes filled with tears. “My baby’s growing up.” She whispered, wiping her eyes.
The elevator dinged.
We stepped in.
“What floor?” I asked since I was closest to the panel.
“Sixth.” Richard replied.
I pressed the button with the number six on it and the elevator doors closed.
The way up seemed like eternity. I tapped my feet, feeling impatient. I fidgeted with my hands, feeling nervous. What if Scarlett hates me? I brushed that thought away.
The elevator doors opened.
Finally.
Scarlett’s POV
I lay in the hospital bed. My head felt clearer after talking with the nurse and my headache was gone. I still couldn't believe I had tried to commit suicide. I shook my head and sighed. My chest rose then fell. I stared at the IV in my arm, then at the blank wall in front of me. "What was I thinking?" I muttered out loud.
“Knock knock,” A familiar voice called and the door creaked open a little.
The door swung open and my sister’s face popped in my room.
“Maddi!” I squealed like a little kid who just found their mommy after getting lost in a supermarket.
“Hey, kiddo.” She gave me a big smile and walked in the room. She was followed by baby Troy, then Richard.
"Goo." Troy gurgled and clapped his chubby hands. A little bit of drool dribbled onto his shirt.
“Hey, Scar.” Richard smiled and in his arms he held a big bouquet of flowers. He walked over towards the window and set them down. “Feeling better?” He asked as he turned towards me.
“Yah,” I tucked a piece of hair behind my ears. “I’m- I’m sorry for what I did.” I whispered. “I wasn’t thinking and it was stupid.” I looked at my fingers and twiddled them.
“Don’t fret,” Maddi sat beside me on the bed and placed her hand on top of mine. “You’re a survivor Scarlett, the strongest of them all.” She gave me a small smile and then brightened up. “I have a surprise for you. Wait here.” She got up and made her way to the door.
Austin walked in.
Austin. Fucking. Mahone.
I could feel my eyes bulging. “Austin?” I squeaked.
“Hey, Scarlett.” Austin gave a small smile and walked towards me. “I uh, I got you a bear.” He stuck out his hand and in between his clutch was a stuffed bear- a light brown bear with blue eyes.
I took the bear. “Thanks,” I mumbled. I looked at the bear and felt its fuzzy coat. It was adorable. I looked up at Austin. His eyes seem to hold a certain type of sadness and a tint of worry. His lips were curled up in a small smile, but his eyes told a different story. He was nervous.
“No problem.” He replied. His eyes crinkled and he stuffed his hands into his gray hoodie.
“I think we’ll let you have a little alone time.” Maddi broke the silence and ushered Richard out of the room with baby Troy in her arms. “Common you old lug.” She teased as they left.
The door closed with a soft thump.
Austin pulled up a chair and sat beside my bed. “So…” He cautioned his eyes still nervous and sad.
I wanted to be mad at him. I wanted to tell him he was a piece of shit and he didn’t deserve being around me, but I ended up just asking, “why Austin?” All my bottled up anger towards him all of a sudden evaporated and was replaced with longing.
“Why what?” He asked his brows knitting together in confusion.
“Why’d you leave me? Why’s you lead me on when you knew perfectly well that you didn’t like me and I liked you? Why…” My voice fell to a whisper and I broke the gaze. I stared straight forward at the white wall. “Why?”
“Scarlett,” Austin started. “I- Scarlett I never meant to hurt you.” His voice was soft and sad. It held regret and something else… but I didn’t know what.
A small period of silence fell between us and I still didn’t look at Austin.
He finally began talking again, “they- listen, Scarlett- I- I didn’t want to date Krysten. I didn’t want anything to do with her actually. I mean the second I met her I knew she wasn’t the one for me. And I tried to get management to stop what they were planning, but they wouldn’t. I tried to tell Krysten to tell management to back off but she said that if I didn’t do this she would… she would hurt you.” His voice cracked.
I continued staring at the wall, not looking at him.
“I told management over and over again that Krysten wasn’t the one for me, that I didn’t like her. They told me to go with it. They said that she was there to boost my fame. Scarlett, I don’t care about my fame. I really don’t, but…” what he said after I could barley hear, “but I care about you. I didn’t want Krysten to hurt you. Scarlett, she’s scary. And if it meant I couldn’t talk to you, if it meant I could be with you… but I could protect you… then I would take my chances. And I did. I’m sorry, Scarlett. I should have told you something, but I was afraid of what Krysten would do.”
I still looked at the wall, “I’ve met Krysten before.” I stated, not looking at Austin. My gaze fell to my lap.
I could feel Austin’s gaze on my back. “H-how?” He stammered.
“I was working and she came and bought a shit load of stuff. She’s a bitch.” I looked at Austin.
His lips held a hint of a smile, “you’re right. She is a bitch.” His smile became broader and his eyes came to life.
I looked at him. And I realized how much I missed him. His laugh, his smile, his eyes, and his jokes… just him in general, I missed him so much. I returned his smile.
“That’s why she’s not the one for me.” His face became serious. “I love you, Scarlett.”
