It's just about nightfall, on a Saturday night.
Phoenix is out with his friends, they're having one more group hangout before school starts up again. Everyone is having a nice time.
Zander is alone in the woods meditating, he did this a week ago and was attacked by someone. The person didn't have any weapons on them, all they did was lunge and bite Zander on the arm and run off. He felt weird after being bit, most likely anxiety from the attack. He has a knife by him just in case.
Phoenix goes over by a window and looks out at the sky. It's a clear night, the stars twinkle and the moon shines, it's full tonight, compliments the sky nicely. Phoenix goes back and sits with his friends.
Zander continues meditating.
Hours pass.
Phoenix and his friends all sit around waiting for it to be midnight, another day gone by being together.
Zander is running; he doesn't know why, but he is. It feels invigorating to him, suddenly he falls. He's screaming in pain. No one can hear him.
"10...9...8...7..." Phoenix and his friends say all in unison. This is always his favorite part.
Zander is lying on the ground by a stream. He is not himself.
It's midnight.
Phoenix and his friends all say their goodbyes. After they've all left he decides to go for a walk in the woods.
Zander is running again. His body is deformed; his face has a wolf-like snout where his nose and lips would be, his ears are pointed at the tips, he is covered in fur and has grown a tail.
Phoenix has walked by a small stream. His sits down and takes off his shoes to dip his feet in. He hears a rustling in the woods. He picks up his shoes and walks back home.
Zander runs out of the woods, he's found a scent he likes. It makes him hungry. He follows the scent.
Phoenix is in his house and getting in his pajamas. He hears a bang come from outside, probably raccoons. He looks out his bedroom window and sees a large creature scurrying around his driveway. Suddenly the creature falls, it starts whining in pain.
Zander has made his way to a backyard. He is still following the scent that made him hungry. He runs into the driveway and crashes into a garbage bin. He continues searching for the source of the scent wildly, it's all over this driveway. Suddenly he falls over, again he is in pain. Less pain than before, he whimpers and everything goes dark.
Phoenix rushes outside to care for the injured animal. He's brought a blanket to carry it inside. When he gets to the creature he is surprised to see that the creature is no longer the creature, but a boy. A boy his age. He covers the boy with the blanket and carries him inside. Phoenix lays the boy down on his bed, he has no other place to sleep. He crawls into bed next to the boy and falls asleep.
