I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the wall across from me. I didn't feel like getting up, but I needed to. It was Friday, and I was taking off of school. Even though, my parents didn't like me to sleep in late. I could never sleep past ten. I stretched my arms out, and yawned, slipping my slippers on to keep my feet warm.

I walked downstairs and into the kitchen, finding my mom drinking her coffee, and my dad reading his news paper. Today was my birthday. It was also Anton Zaslavski's or as most people know him, Zedd's birthday. It was kinda ironic.

"Happy Fourteenth birthday Laken!" That's me. Avanelle Laken Kinsley. Everyone calls me by my middle name

"Thanks Guys." I said with a tired smile on my face.

There was a small pile of presents on the table, and an envelope that had my name on it.

"Do want some eggs and bacon for your special day breakfast?" My father asked.

"Yes, of course! Don't forget the syrup!" I replied.

He got right to cooking, and my mom told me to open my gifts. She pushed a small, box shaped present over to me. It was wrapped in black wrapping paper, with music notes all over it. There was a pink bow tied around it. I ripped off the delicate paper, and saw a tiny box.

"Wow! This is the most beautiful box I've ever received! Thank you. This is the best gift ever." I said in a fake excited tone. My parents laughed at the little joke that I had made up years ago.

I took the little lid of the box off. It revealed a beautiful ring. The ring had small, crystal flowers the hole way around it. On the inside, my name was engraved, with the words, "Something Beautiful" across from it.

My jaw was dropped, as I slid the tiny, and beautiful ring onto my middle finger. It fit perfectly.

"Wow, thanks guys. It's so beautiful." I said quietly, still shocked.

"You're welcome dear, it was the least we could do for our special, and beautiful daughter." My mother smiled. I twisted the ring on my finger.

I opened the rest of my presents, receiving five sweaters, two pairs of leggings, a pair of black and white Vans, and a neckless with an "L" on it, surrounded by lime green, crystal pedals. All I had left was the envelope. I opened it gingerly, yet rapaciously, to see what the white envelope held.

It was a card. A card with the words, "For our Dear Daughter..." on it. I opened it, and I almost screamed. It held a ticket for a Zedd concert tomorrow! My jaw dropped in amazement, and I finally let out an ostentatious, ear-splitting, squeal.

"Oh my gosh!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!" I said in an overly high pitched voice.

"You're welcome!" My parents said simultaneously.

My dad brought my breakfast over to me, setting the plate down cautiously on the glass table. I took the fork from his hand as he held it out to me, and poured syrup all over my food. I felt like buddy the elf, except this wasn't as disgusting as putting syrup on your spaghetti.

I ate my food slowly, savoring every bite. It was very delicious. I thanked my dad and complimented him on his "chefiness".

The day went on, everyone on all my social networking cites told me "Happy Birthday!", we went bowling (I beat both of them, and my friend Aubrey by 30 points. I'm a pro.), and we went to Carabba's for dinner (their grilled chicken tastes like steak!).

My birthday was very fun. Sigh, fourteen. I'm getting old.
