I laid in bed wondering who Dr. Rosario was going to pin Roy's death on Mitch or me. If she had it her way, I'm sure she would most likely have the both of us penalized. I placed my bare feet in the cold, white tiled floor and slowly crept up to the door. Didn't I leave it open after I changed into pajamas? I asked myself, hoping Charlie or Shelly could answer. I grabbed hold of the handle and turned it as I pulled. I smiled foolishly at myself as the door didn't open. I must be still half asleep, I chuckled to myself and grabbed the doorknob again. The door didn't budge. I juggled the doorknob and hit the door with an opened hand. "Hello!" I shouted as I peaked through the small, unbreakable window to see no one in sight. "I'm locked in," the words fell out of my mouth. I stood on my toes to glimpse at the clock hanging on the opposite side of my bedroom door. Breakfast was almost over. I nodded as I took a deep breath. "Mitch will come looking for me," I whispered to myself, mollifying my anxiousness.
I wasn't sure how many minutes, how many hours have past, but I was becoming reckless by the second. My hands hurt from banging on the door. I felt like a bird in a much smaller cage within a giant one. Mitch hasn't come as I hoped he would. Maybe he doesn't know where to look, Shelly suggested.
Or maybe he's locked in his room, Charlie inputted his opinion.
I slid down onto the floor with the door pressed against my back in defeat. My stomach growled. I was starving. All I could think about was eating. I missed Philip's cooking, it was better than my mother's. I heard a car door shut. I scrambled to my feet and darted towards the bared up window. My eyes widened as I watched someone with dark chestnut hair get out of the car. The more the man approached the entrance, the more I could see his face. Daly. I banged on the glass. "Chris!" I shouted as loud as I could.
Daly walked up to the door. I could only see the back of his leather jacket. Little head movements indicated that Daly was talking to someone. I closed my eyes. "Please don't let it be Dr. Rosario," I begged. I opened my eyes to see the sight of Daly heading back to his silver car. No. No. No."Chris!" I cried. I placed my forehead on the cold window as I could smell the winter air through the other side. "Please turn around," I ordered him in a half whisper.
Daly did not. Instead, he got into his car and flipped the engine over. I rushed towards the door and started head-butting the locked the door. "Let me out!" I yelled, pending my head repeatedly on the door.
I viewed outside of the door through the rectangular window with blurted vision. My empty stomach turned into knots. My eyes were starting to play tricks on me as it was hard to stand on my own two feet. My eyes widened after seeing a glimpse of angel like face with icy blue eyes. "Mitch?" I whispered puzzled. "Mitch get me out of here!"
An evil cackle filled my ears. I shook my head. "Get me out if here!" I demanded.
"No can do," Dr. Rosario declined. "Officer, excuse me Detective Daly came by with a bagel for you, but I had to through it out. It is much too heavy for a shrinking stomach."
"Just you wait. I'm going to tell him what really goes on behind these doors," I pointed in the direction of the entrance.
"Oh, he won't believe you. No one will."
"He will believe me and he will let me free after I kill you for every damned soul your tortured. I can't wait until I get to drive a knife into your cowardly heart."
Dr. Rosario narrowed her eyes. "Did you just threaten me?"
"Just what the fuck are you going to do about it!" I yelled.
Dr. Rosario pulled keys from her pocket. "You've been so disrespectful: swearing, threatening the lives of staff members, not following the rules and killing other patients. I think you are going to need to be punished."
I smashed my head on the wood with widened, crazed eyes. "Please do," I beamed broadly as I inched myself fingers toward a pen on the desk closed by.
Dr. Rosario took a step back with a horrid expression. She jerked her head side to side briefly until there was no emotion left on her face. The door slowly opened. I snatched the door from her and clicked on the pen, allowing the ballpoint of the pen entered her eye as I tackled her onto the floor. I nabbed the keys from Dr. Rosario's hand and ran down the hallway towards the other side of the asylum.
I ran down the hallway that had Mitch's room in. I shouted his name as I was unsure of which room was his. I shortly heard muffled banging coming from a door I walked by hastily. I jogged back and peaked through the window to see Mitch's hair sticking up from having pulled due to the stress of being under lock and key, allowing Mitch to be trapped inside his own head without any release. "Paige, you got to get me out of here," Mitch ordered.
I struggled to find the right key as my hands shook from the adrenaline. I turned the doorknob and opened the door. Mitch jumped out of the opened door. His eyes were pink from having been crying. I wiped the he corners his eyes, "We need to find a phone," I declared as I took Mitch's hand in mine and began to head to Dr. Rosario's office, where a phone was sure to be.
I poked my head from the corner to no sign of anybody. "Paige!" I heard my name being shouted.
Mitch and I looked behind to see the pen sticking out of her right eye as blood streamed out of it. Mitch grabbed my hand and rushed down the hall as Dr. Rosario charged straight towards us a handful of my hair was pulled back and I fell backwards and collapsed on Dr. Rosario, pushing the pen further into her eye. Dr. Rosario screamed bloody murder. Numerous of footsteps were heard soon after. Mitch pulled me out of Dr. Rosario's arms as the guard were ordering us, "Stop!"
Mitch and I didn't get far until Mitch's leg was caught from on of the guards. I turned around without letting go of Mitch's hand and kicked the guard off of him. I pulled Mitch until he was free from the man's grip. Just as Mitch was back up on his feet, my body was slammed up against the wall. A forearm was placed against my throat  as a knee pinned my leg tightly back. "Are you aware of what your boss does when no one is around?" I asked the guard in front of me while the guard from before held Mitch back with blood slowly streaming from his nose.
"You don't get to talk," the guard firmly answered.
"Freedom of speech," I whispered to him with a giggle.
The man slapped my cheek powerfully with an open palm.
"Harder," I playfully teased.
The grey eyed guard turned me around and escorted me to my room.
We are going the wrong way. The guard holding me tightly stopped in front of the door that said 'employees only'. I squirmed knowing the dark secrets that lied behind that door. The guard shuffled his keys out of his pocket while keeping a very short leash. The man picked me up and carried me, like a fireman would rescuing someone from a fire, down the old wooden stairs. I put my entire weight into my upper body as I stretched. "Be nice to Mr. Marge," the man told me as he had a hard time keeping me still.
I lifted my legs and slid out of his arms. I ran over to the stairs and I felt Mr. Marge lift me high enough to body slam me onto the bed with a single step. I arched my back as the air was knocked out from my lungs. Mr. Marge brushed my dirty blond hair out of my face. "It's a shame I already devoted my life to a woman," Mr. Marge avowed after laying a gentle kiss on the corner of my eye.
Mr. Marge pulled the stinging resting against the dangling light bulb. "Where are you going?" I asked in panic.
"Just followin' orders," Mr. Marge answer shortly as I head him climbing up the stairs.
"No, come ba—"
The sound of the door shutting cut me off. I rested my head on the back of the bed and groaned. "They are so fucked when I tell Chris everything," I claimed in a whisper.
You will get justice, Charlie promised.
I could hear my stomach growling at me. It begged me to feed it. My taste buds craved mouthwatering ingredients to form the best meal I could ever eat. The darkness I laid in against my will was comforting, yet terrifying. The shadow were playing tricks on my eyes. Just tricks, I calmed myself down. "Charlie," I called out.
Yes Paige?
"You think Jan was a victim of Dr. Rosario's and Roy's team up?"
It is a big possibility.
I nodded while moving my stiff wrist in a restrained circle, allowing my bones to crack. It felt good for the moment, but my joints went back to be wooden quickly. "I wonder if Philp realizes I haven't been down to eat."
I'm sure Dr. Rosario made up some lie, Shelly guessed with annoyance in her voice.
"What's the matter?"
This whole situation is aggravating. She is trying so hard to keep you from revealing what goes on around here and punishes you everytime you try to do the right thing and fight back.
"I know, but I won't stop fighting until I expose Dr. Rosario of her crimes and she knows that," I explained.
Alright, Shelly replied in a half whisper, trying to keep herself strong long enough for the tears struggling to escape to be nonexistent.
