It was supposed to be raining. It shouldn't be sunny and beautiful and cloudless. There should be lightning, winds blowing so hard no one could stay on their feet. But... It was. This was happy weather, warm spring laughter filled weather. Not weather a day such as this. Never for this.
She should have expected this, really, after all.. Who said heros had happy endings? He didn't deserve this ending, no one did. But he was her hero so... It couldn't be helped. She liked to think of it like that anyway... He was such an amazing person, he saved so many people maybe it had to even out eventually.
'It's not fair' she thought to herself. And it wasn't, how the battle ended, how he was left to die... Alone. Well not truly alone ,she almost mused, he was with his father she supposed. But his father is the reason for this! This overwhelming need to scream in frustration because it wasn't as if he needed the miraculous to help anyone but himself. He wanted to bring back is wife but instead lost his son.
She was nudged by her mother that they were leaving, as many had started to walk away silently. That left them alone. She wasn't crying like she wanted to. She wasn't yelling at Mr. Agreste for murdering his son and her best friend, the one she loved truly. The one she had denied to love for her love of the same person... For him. It's always been him.
'No!' She screamed in her mind. She grit her teeth and clenched her fists. Not here. Not now. She sighed before turning to Gabriel Agreste.
"I'm sorry" she managed to push out. He looked up at her in shock. "W-What" "I'm sorry for the loss of your son" she bowed her head to look at the stone one last time before slowly turning away.
"I didn't-" She turns back to the man in absolute rage. "As Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I am sorry for the loss of your son. You were horrible to him, not giving him the freedom and love he deserved but he still loved you and I'm sure you loved him as well even if it was deep down." She turned back only giving her head half a turn.
"But as Ladybug the protector of Paris, and most importantly Chat Noir's partner I will never forgive you. I will not stop until this city is safe from you and any other villain who decides to threaten the lives here. I will not stop until my best friend can rest easy knowing the city he tried so hard to save is in fact, safe. You will not stop me. You Hawkmoth will only encourage me to stop you more than you even realize. So goodbye Mr. Agreste I'm sorry for the loss of your son."
She turns her head and walks slowly to her parents and Alya waiting for her. No one had to know the ring was in her pocket. And no one had to know about her disrespecting Mr. Agreste at his child's funeral. But for right now she'll hang on to the hope of one day seeing him, not a new Chat but him.. And to be home one day... One day.
