"Yeah one of us," Carlos answered. Then he turned and grabbed a boy, about 10 years old.

"Well does he know how to ride a horse?" I asked and the small boy nodded. Carlos placed him on Boomerang and we all shifted as the sound of crunching snow in the distance started to get louder as I shifted. The horses reared almost knocking Zero and the boy off.

I could tell they were having a conversation, telepathy wise anyway.

"We should go to the next town first and go from there" I said and they nodded. As Carlos and I took the lead, the others followed with the horses in the front just behind us.

They're still chasing you, I can help Atwell's voice interrupted my thoughts about how we were going to get away from them. You haven't used my magic sense we merged. He complained.

I looked behind us and saw that Zero and the younger boy could pass as brothers. That might be helpful in the next city, if this didn't look good, in the future.

I know and I'm sorry, I just haven't gotten used to having you with me. But I promise I will use your magic, okay Atwell?

Okay fine

Out of the corner of my eye I saw that Carlos's wolf was just a little bit bigger than mine but that really didn't matter now. A gun shot sounded from behind us.

"They're closing in!" I heard a wolf growl. Suddenly I couldn't take it anymore, I turned wide and charged at the men chasing us.

"Get Zero to safety!" I howled at Carlos. Again using my tactic of going for the horses first worked, all the men fell either off their horses or with their horses.

"Gah! Dumb wolf!" One yelled and started rapid firing. Using this as an advantage I leaped next to the men accompanying him and he still fired. The man killed two men before he stopped and realized what he did. In that moment of hesitation I lounged for the man's throat.

Seconds later my mouth filled with blood and the body went limp, dropping the gun. I let go, blood dripping down my mouth. I turned to the men left and counted 8. This might either take my life or take theirs. I decided to live another day. In their dazed state I ran towards my adoptive pack and soon found them resting in a ditch, not able to see from the direction they were going.

I panted as I crawled into the ditch, my muzzle still dripping with blood. They had all shifted back into their human forms and I joined.

"What were you thinking!" Carlos yelled throwing his hands in the air. "You could've died!"

I looked at the boys and finally settled my eyes on a horrified Zero. I wiped the blood from the corners of my mouth,

"I'm sorry dad,  I didn't know you cared" I growled and he visibly flinched.

"Well I care for my pack members, now why'd you do that!?" He shouted.

"Because one of you could have gotten hurt, I had to buy you sometime!" and with that I shifted again and started running, Zero's face destroying my thoughts. I knew what I had to do to protect him.

I found a dead tree and layed down at the base of it, panting again. A tear rolled down my fur.

You could have used my magic Atwell said and my wolf agreed.

Then they would all be dead and you would have nothing to worry about. My wolf added

I'm not in the best mood right now I growled.

I'm sorry for the bad time My wolf fired back. I slowly drifted into sleep hoping that the pack would be okay with out me.

                                                                                        ----------

When I awoken I was being carried in unfamiliar arms. The ground shifted downwards as I struggled out of the grasp.

"Spaze!" I heard someone cry out. I opened my eyes to see Zero running towards me from the ditch. I looked at the person carrying me and saw Alex. He dropped me in the snow.

"Why'd you run?" Zero asked, "It's been a whole day I was worried about you!"

"I don't want to talk about it" I said and turned away.  He frowned but didn't ask anymore questions. I looked up to see Carlos glaring, so I put my head down. Didn't seem they trusted me anymore. I crawled over to him.

"What is the boy's name that's talking to Zero?" I whispered.

"Collin" He answered madly.

"And how old did you say he was?"

"10"

"Don't you worry about his safety?"

"All the time" He answered in a chilled tone.

"Oh"

"Why?" He asked.

"I am thinking of dropping off Zero with a close friend of mine, she loves kids, and I was thinking it would be safer for them"

"Oh, it would be, put he's your pack"

"No he's more than that, but I have to let him go, for his safety" I said feeling a tear roll down my face. Carlos looked at me and his expression softened when he saw the tears.

"Hey, it's okay, your doing it for him" He said and hugged me. After a minute he pulled away and got up.

"Want something to eat?"

I shook my head, "Not hungry"

" I haven't seen you eat anything but that chicken strip you stole from the twins. Are you sure?" he asked.

and I nodded, "Go, I know your hungry." With that he went to Kaspara and grabbed food. Instantly everyone was surrounding him shouting what they wanted.

"I call the apple!" Tonie said.

"No I want it!" The other twin said and they started fighting.

"Don't make me eat that apple to you guys." I shouted at them and they  stopped arguing.

"No that's okay!" one of them shouted back nervously. I laughed to myself, looking at Zero another time.
