"Embrena, if you ever need to stay at our house overnight... We don't mind." My mother stated as she was about to leave for work. Grabbing her keys she had then stopped at the door. "You are like family to us, so just know that you are always welcome." I smile as tears began to form. "You all feel like my family, so thank you." Yet another night I was left to babysit, though I didn't mind. Even if my family hadn't known who I was, they still cared for me. Because no matter what we will always have our connection.
"Breena, has she left yet?" Morgana asked as she ran down the stair. I nod and laugh; "When did you start calling me that?" Her reply was short and sweet as she grabbed my hand she spoke once more. "It just came naturally. Anyway, we have to start getting ready for Evan's birthday! He turns 18 in a week." The days were slipping away quickly, it was unavoidable. Evan became at risk to become a cupid due to his coming of age. "Yes, I want to make sure that he has the perfect birthday."
I spend most nights at my old home; my mother has the night shift so she works from ten in the afternoon to six in the morning. She is a single parent so I only watch the children when they are sleeping, though they are old enough to watch themselves. Morgana normally has episodes of depression and Evan does not know how to correctly handle it, so that is why I am needed. When I was still in their lives our father left for unknown reasons, but after I was erased events took action. In a car accident my father died; morgana did not take this well.
She was diagnosed with depression months later and Evan began to separate his life from his family; if only he knew the pain could be greater. "Morgan, Ev! It's time to do your homework." Running down the stairs I had noticed that the two were synchronized, but why? "Mine is already done." Evan stated as he tried to walk upstairs. "Hold it!" I state as I walk forward. "Then spend time with your sister." He then nods only to sit on the floor in the living room. "So what grade are you guys in now?" I asked as we set the paper down to work on the coffee table. My palm laid flat on the cold glass and it made me flinch. "Evan is going into college next year and I am currently in the tenth grade." I nod only to stare at my almost fully grown sister. I have spent four years alone, away from everyone that I loved; I wonder how they were feeling...
"So a triangle sum theorem is the inner degrees added to create the one outer degree? How is that supposed to make sense?" Listening to Morgana complain about math brought me back. "It's math, I think that they are doing it on purpose." Both of us start to snicker only to have Evan speak. "Think of it this way, just like the same-side interior/exterior angles... it will always equal to 180 degrees. You are good at that, I know you are. So, just add the insides and that is congruent to the outside. Do you understand?" A loud grunt is belched out of my not so little sister and we all laugh. "I rate that a 8 on a scale from 1 to 10." As the bonding continues a knock on the door arises.
"Hello who is it?" I ask only to shut my mouth. "It's your fault!" Mason screamed as he tackled me. His body looked as if it was slowly dissolving, I desperately try to make a sound yet nothing came out. Searching the room I had noticed that the children have disappeared, were they scared? "It's your fault!" Mason screams once more and the children randomly appear. "It was your fault Embrena. We could have been happier if only you hadn't gotten shot. It is YOUR fault!" I wake up gasping for air; it was all just a nightmare? "Em, what's wrong?" My brother screamed as he ran down the stairs. "Nothing, it was nothing just a bad dream." I whispered as I try to sit up, I then notice a weight on my chest. "Why is Morgan sleeping on my chest?" I asked curiously as I lay back down only to stroke her head. "It was a painful night for her so she curled up next to you. I hope that it is alright." I only nodded and smiled, she finally felt comfortable with me.
"Want to sit with us?" I asked as I made room for him. "Sure..." He hesitatively replied. "Have you ever been in love Evan?" I asked as we all curled together. "I think that I have, but I have definitely have had many crushes." He stated so proudly, was my brother a ladies man? "Like Aubrey?" Morgana asked with a devilish grin. "I thought you were asleep you twerp." Evan screamed as he swatted the top of her head. "You guys are silly." I stated as I rub their heads. "Have you ever been in love Breena?" I only smiled at her question and shook my head. "What about that guy that comes over sometimes, Chase was it?" Evan asked as her burrowed her brows. I only shake my head once more, Chase was not my love; I had no love.
