Chapter 10

I screamed and cried; "Can't you hear me? I am right here! Listen to me, please!" Tears poured down my pink face and I began to hyperventilate. "Please." I whispered only to be silenced. "Stand up." A guard screamed as he pulled my body with my arm. Before I had left, Mason then smirked in my direction. This frustrated me, why had he wanted to see my pain?

I end my fight with being locked in a cell, it was quiet and cold, I was all alone. Before I was completely enraged a visitor came. "You know why you are here right?" Mason calmly asked. I hadn't known the answer, nor had I wanted to. "When told, you were not allowed through the door, you went anyway. You disobeyed your commander, so you are being imprisoned." I disobeyed? That was all that I had done? "You forced Chase to become one of us, why?" I asked my hatred filled question hoping to get a clear answer from him. "To watch you suffer." Haven't I suffered long enough? Haven't I gone through enough pain?

"You see Embrena, everyone here has a job. Some greet the new bows and arrows, some communicate with the ones already here, some command them. But there is one job that most do not know about... When an arrow is shot to change a cupid into one of us, they do not die by it. People like me, people who have fought their whole lives, kill the cupids and create the opening for a switch. Some of us have to get our hand just a tad bloody sometimes. There is no such thing as death by arrow, we are the murderers."

I was angry, I was bitter, but most of all I was disgusted. "The leaders from the council have now created their own verdict. Your punishment is in process; I can't wait to find out what it is." Mason stated with a devilish grin, this sickened me. It was obvious that this was not the Mason that I had known; as he left another person entered. "Stand...!" The woman screamed as she walked closer to our cells. Her white clothing was from head to toe and her brown hair was tied into a bun in the back of her head. This was definitely another authority figure but why was she here?

"My name is officer Emily Winters and I will be the one to escort the two of you to the commander." The two of us...? Had she meant that Evan was here too? "Evan?" I screeched as I held my arm out of my cell. "I'm here Em, I promise. I am right here." Before Evan could speak again a quiet sniffle came from the stairway, was it Mason? "I am not going to repeat myself, stand!" We did as we were told and we were let out.

Entering the office of the Commander, a grin was placed on his wrinkled face. "We have reached our verdict for Embrena Rose Fameelya and Evan James Fameelya." For the first time in five year my middle name was spoken. This sent a shock through my body and I was confused, nothing had felt off; I wasn't scared. "Evan Fameelya, you are sent to become a guard for the La mort d'un arc et d'une flèche community." He was being assigned a new job? Evan was going to become a part of the community? I... I couldn't let this happen!

"Embrena Fameelya, you are going to become one of our killers." Before I could think, before I could speak, before I could do anything at all, Mason became enraged. "What? You are going to make her one of us? You are going to give her more power?" I was so confused, what should I do? "What?" I whispered as my body became still. "Are you questioning your commander?" Ethan raised his voice as he stood, Mason then cowered in his own skin. "Do you accept?" Ethan asked as if it was a question; I only nod in a confused manor.

"Em..." Evan whispered as came closer to me. "Where is Chase?" I stated as I ignored Evan's attempts to contact me. "Embre...!" I heard the sound of Chase screaming and my confusion grew. "Where is he? I can hear him!" I shouted as I stepped closer to Ethan, he seemed shocked by my words. "You can hear him? That isn't supposed to happen!" His smile soon disappeared and his expression became frantic. As I was about to shout further Chase then hugs my still body.
