Run.

That's all I could think. I could feel it behind me. The beast was invisible, but I saw what it did to him. To Ezra. It ate his eyes. Tears streamed down my face as each limb hit me, tearing at my face. My lungs begged me to stop, but I kept going. Then I stumbled upon a cave, where I slipped.

I woke to a face in front of mine. Red hair dangling above me. "She's awake!" the girl yelled. A tall woman, with blueish black hair stood up, a pipe hanging from her lips.

"Azeril, hello. I'm Miss Peregrine, the mother bird of this home. This is my home for peculiar children, such as yourself," She smiled.

"H-how did I get here? T-that thing..." My voice trailed off.

"Ah, yes, we shall speak more of that later, my dear. Much for you to learn, but there's plenty of time. Do you feel that you're okay for dinner?"

This is all to much. "Uh, ye-" She cut me off.

"Good, Emma here has clothes you can borrow. She'll show you around and have you ready by dinner. You shall meet everyone then," She walked off.

The red haired girl helped me up, a pair of gloves on her. "Why do you have those?"

"These?" she motions to the gloves, "Just to help with my peculiarity, for anything I touch burns, or burst into flames."

"Woah," I stared at her gloves, "That's amazing."

"Yeah, now follow me." She took off up the stairs, I following behind her.

I looked around, a few open doors, full of children playing, all of then staring at me. Emma opened a door, leading to a simple room. Post cards and letters filled the room up. Suddenly she pulled out a dress. It was a simple "old-time" light blue dress. I put it on, sliding my converse on after the dress. She glared at my shoes. "You'll need something more, our time, and nice."

We argued a bit, me winning and wearing my shoes. "Dinner!" I hear The Bird yell. I didn't even get to look around. I sigh, heading down the stairs.  The only seat open was next to a  handsome young boy, pale, with dark brown curls, broad shoulders. I sat by him, everyone's eyes on me.

Miss Peregrine stood, "Everyone this is Azeril. She is a new member of the home. All of you will welcome her, and introduce yourselves."

I went through meeting the twins, Claire, Bronwyn, Hough, Hoarce, Millard, Olive, Fiona, Victor, Abe, and a few others, but not the boy I sat beside. Miss Peregrine cleared her throat, looking at him. He sighed, groggily speaking, "I'm Enoch."

"Now, Azeril, what's your peculiarity?" Miss Peregrine asked.

I blushed, "Well, I can transfer other's pain to me, or to others, as I can make them feel pain, and I can heal them. Shall I demonstrate?"

"Yes! Please Miss P?" All the kids begged. The Bird nodded.

I picked up a knife, stabbing it into my hand, causing all the other kids to yelp, then I looked at Abe, my pain transferring to him, he yelped as he held his hand. I then took the knife out,  looking at Abe, taking the pain back. Then with a small touch from my other hand, my wound was healed. "And then," I started, winking at Enoch, as I stabbed  a fork into his hand, having the pain instantly transfer to Abe. I earned  a scowl from him and Emma. I then touch Abe's hand, transferring the pain back to me. The fork was taken out of Enoch's hand, I laid my finger tips on it healing it.

All the kids stared in awe, as Miss Peregrine stood up, "Get ready for movie time."

Everyone stood up from the table, taking off to get ready. I tapped Enoch's shoulder. "What?" The thick Scottish accent caught me off guard.

"Can y-you answer a few questions for me? Please?" I asked.

"Why should I? You'll probably not stay for long."

The words stung, for I have finally found a place I felt at home. Then Victor, his dark hair perfectly parted, he was nice and skinny, (but I fancied Enoch as more my type) walked up, clicking his tongue. "C'mon Enoch, let's take her down and help the poor lassie out." He headed upstairs to Enoch's room, I following closely behind.

Shelves were covered in jars full of hearts and organs. I saw dolls laying all over the floor. Enoch glared at me, "So what do you want?"

His words felt like knives, but I shook them off. "M-my friend Ezra. He was leading me here. He said he's never been here but there's a safe loop. He lead me here, b-but a thing chased us. I c-couldn't see it," my voice started breaking, I saw Victor sadly looking at me, "It ate his eyes. I want to know what it was," tears were streaking my face, "I want to avenge Ezra."

Victor rubbed my back, as Enoch blankly watched me. "Hallowgast. Invisible beats that eat peculiar's eyes. We call 'em Hallows. Wites own 'em. They're bad creatures who raid loops."

I nodded. "How do we kill it?"

"It's suicide!" Victor shouted.

Tears streaked down my face, as Miss Peregrine yelled for Movie time. Victor went to grab me a night dress from Emma, who seemed to not like me to well after dinner.

I watched Enoch as we sat in his room. "There's no point in hunting that Hallow, it'll kill ye. Better off leaving it be."

I looked at Enoch, staring into his eyes, tears falling from mine. "That thing took everything from me when it took Ezra. Ezra was my best friend," I chocked a sob, "He was there b-before I found out.. what I was. He was there for me when I was being beat, by my parents who thought I was a witch."

Enoch stared at me, sighing, "Well, you've obviously have yer home here."

"I know nobody here," I sighed.

"Not my problem," he sighed, opening the door to leave as Victor appeared with a grey dress.

  "Here ya go."

I put the dress on, following Victor downstairs. I sat with Enoch and Victor, for I was scared to come near everyone else. The little girl, Claire, sat by my feet, smiling up at me. I gave a smile back, as the lights dimmed. I looked over seeing Hoarce with some eye piece in. Then we watched his dream.
