as always, school was a problem for clarke. it always has been. in class today the guy named murphy stole her backpack, which she only got back at the end of the day by one of the councilors.
"who cares? she has no friends, why should i give a crap?"
and because the blonde didn't have her materials for the day she was made fun of and caused exasperation from her teachers. the kindness in the beginning of the year from the staff had eventually faded overtime; she had no support. she just wished there was a way she could end it.
when she was about to walk home, murphy stopped her again. he laughed as he blocked clarke's path, intercepting her turns trying to avoid him.
"you think you're going to get away with getting me into trouble?" he growled, a crowd forming around them in effect.
before she could think, a sharp pain spread through her left cheek. clarke soon was aware of the metallic taste in her mouth, the thick substance spreading onto her tongue. another punch was thrown, and another, and clarke was in no place to defend herself; she was already in the ground. the crowd jeered behind her, while her hearing and vision was fuzzy. after a few more blows, the crowd though it was enough and held him back. they sing bother to help the wounded, and after lying in the sidewalk for a few minutes, clarke continued her walk home, unsteadily.
her mother happened to have "an emergency she needed to attend that would last all night" so clarke went over to lexa's. she needed someone to talk to about... everything.
she walked up to her door and was about to knock. before she could, a pair of worried green eyes were staring at her swollen left cheek.
"clarke?! what the hell happened to you? who did this?"
"um- murphy, the guy i showed you. it's- it's fine. i'm oka-"
"you're not okay." lexa led clarke into her house by putting a hand on her back. she quickly got an ice pack and gave it to the younger girl. "apply this to your cheek. does it hurt?"
"thanks. just a little bit, i'm just tired."
lexa nodded and placed her hand on clarke's thigh. it made her heart beat, but it made her relaxed. "take a nap here, then." the brunette whispered, her breath touching the exposed skin on clarke's neck, making the blonde's breathing hitch.
"o-okay."
clarke adjusted her pillows and sprawled onto the couch. "thank you." she smiled at lexa before drifting off to sleep.
//
luckily clarke had woken up right before her mother was home, and unluckily, while her host was asleep. she left lexa a small note and returned to her house, feeling way better.
of course clarke was nervous for school the next day. murphy would continue what he started, and everything would be so much worse. everyone feared murphy, so whoever was on his bad side, was on theirs.
when she sat in her first period class, murphy appeared to be absent. thank god, she thought, sighing as a few weights went off her chest. they were suddenly dropped back onto her, her relief turning into panic, when an announcement came on the loudspeaker:
"pardon the interruption, but we will have one moment of silence for someone from this school who just died yesterday evening, our student and fellow classmate, john murphy."
