"What are you doing tonight?" A small, ferry like voice sounds through the phone.
"Studying." I reply, turning a page in my Economics book.
"What? No! It's New Years Eve."
"So? It's just another day."
"Just a, just another day! Are you insane?! It's the last day of this year and a start to a new beginning. This is the time to reinvent yourself!" I sigh and roll my eyes.
"Juliet, New Years Eve gives guys and girl a free pass in getting drunk and sleeping around and to not feel guilty about it."
"Yes, and that mean it gives you a free pass to get out and have some fun. You can study tomorrow. All break the only thing you've done is study. Come on, live a little."
"I've been studying because we have a huge test when we get back."
"So? You probably know every answer to the test by now, please come to this party with me." Juliet begs, oh god, I know that voice, she won't stop whining until I say yes. This is how she always gets her way.
"What party?" I ask, a small bit of curiosity creeping in. Some how Juliet always seems to get the best invite to the best parties, not that I ever go with her. The only reason I know how they're the best parties is because the next day Juliet will come over and tell me about who hooked up and who broke up, and who her last guy crush was.
"Nate."
"Nate as in Nate Isaac?"
"Oh so you do know people." Juliet jokes.
"Shut up, everybody that goes to our school and probably every teenager in the county know who Nate is." I say, slamming my book closed and leaving my room.
"So you know he always throws the best New Years Eve party known to man."
"Yeah, because his daddy gives him an weekly pay check the size of China."
"Ugh, Alice please! Just come with me. It doesn't matter whose party it is."
I sigh and open the fridge, looking for something to eat. "I don't know."
"Don't make me kidnap you."
"Fine. I'll go, but if I want to leave we leave, no questions asked." I say in a firm voice.
"Yay! I promise, no questions asked."

"Owe, shit. Stop pulling on my hair!" I yell, placing my hands on my head and scrunching up my face.
"Sorry! You hair is being a bitch."
"Maybe that's because you're messing with it." I snap, Juliet came over three hours ago so we could raid through my closet only for her to decide that I don't have anything good enough to wear to a party. Instead she threw a little black dress at me and ordered me to put it on before she started doing my make up and hair.
"Well it's not my fault that you rats nest of curls doesn't want to work with me."
"My hair is not a rats nest, it's just thick and curly." I huff, cross my arms across my barley covered chest.
"Whatever. I'm almost done anyways." I wince when Juliet pulls my hair again but don't complain, I may hate that she messing with my hair and face and won't let me see myself till she's done but I know for a fact that she won't make me look like a clown or a hooker.
"A few more touches and I'll be done."
"Finally." I mumble just before she starts painting my lips. "Um, your not go into make me look like a hooker right?"
"No, you look gorgeous." Juliet smiles, paints a bit more of my lips before spraying my hair and yelling "Voila!"
I roll my eyes at her before standing up and walking over to my full length mirror. I small gasp leaves my lips as I look at the stunning girl in the mirror. Her blue black hair falls in elegant ringlets down her back, her green eyes sparkle and shine against the smokey eye shadow and long black eyelashes and her bright red pouty lips make her look sexy and daring in the little black dress that hugs her curves in all the right places, shows enough legs and cleavage to look sexy but not enough to look slutty.
"Wow, I don't even look like myself." I whisper, lightly running my figures over my red lips.
"I know, you look stunning. Any guy would be lucky to hook up with you tonight."
"Um," I spin around to face Juliet, glaring at her and her cute red mini dress. "I'm not hooking up with anybody."
"Fine, but you have to kiss someone at midnight."
"Um no." I grab my phone and place it in my bra, refusing to leave it at home incase my mom calls and refusing to bring a purse. With my luck I'd put it down somewhere and leave it or have it stolen.
"Come on. Just grab someone cute at midnight and place a small smooth on their lips. It's simple and plus everybody knows that random midnight kisses on New Years never mean anything. It's not like someone's going to fall in love with you over it."
I shoot her a small glare before slipping on a pair of black flats. "I'm not kissing anyone. I'm only going because you wouldn't shut up about it."
"Um, no. You're wearing heels." Juliet says, handing me a pair of bright red four inch heels. At least they match my lipstick.
"I can't wear these?! Are you crazy?!" I yell, raising my now perfectly plucked eyebrow.
"You can and you will. No take off those ugly flats and slip into those sexy heels. We have to go."
"You so owe me big." I mumble, kicking my shoes at her and slipping on her shoes. Whoa, who knew being taller than 5'2 could feel amazing.
"I'll buy you a new book this weekend." Juliet sighs and walks down the stairs.
"You better. I need the third book in The Maze Runner series."
"How are we so different and still best friends?" Juliet ask, watching me as I lock the door and follow her out of my house.
"It's because we've been friends since we were little and we balance each other out."
"Hunny, you've barley grown since middle school. You can't get littler than that."
"I'm only 5'2!"
"Yeah well to my 5'8 frame you like 4'2"
"Oh god, I'd hate to be that small. I like how tall I am."
"I think I'd die if I was that short." Juliet laughs as she backs out of my driveway. I turn on the heat, blasting it on my goose bump covered legs. I hate winter, snow sucks and the cold just dries out your skin. I'd rather live somewhere were it was always warm.
"You're so overly dramatic." I laugh.
"You love me for it."
"Only a little bit." I laugh when Juliet shoots me a flat look and slaps my arm before taking a left turn leading to Nate's house.
"Damn, looks like we're going to have to walk." Juliet mutters, driving down the cramped road. I whistle as I look at all the cars parked down the road. As we get closer you can hear the music pounding.
"Just park somewhere." I sigh, already wincing at the thought of walking half a mile in these heels. Juliet owes me more than one little book, I think to myself as Juliet pulls her Kia Soul behind a black Mustang.
"Lets go."
"Yuppie." I sigh and push open the door, shivering when the crisp cold air hits my bare legs. I have a feeling tonight isn't going to be very magical.
