Chapter 1- opposites and childhood friendships

You felt a soft, warm feeling on your back. This was the sun on the surface of Ireland, where the sun rarely shined brightly, especially during the Winter. Sure it was sunny outside but it was still wet so you decided not to go out today.

You groaned quietly as you slowly sat up in your soft bed. You are (y/n) the human or at least thats how you introduced yourself as a joke because you knew people didn't care how you introduced yourself it's who you were that mattered.

You pulled the blanket off of you, got up and got your clothes. You silently walked past your twin sibling's bed before heading out of your bedroom door and crept into the bathroom. You gently put your clothes on the closed toilet lid, ready to change into your violet long sleeved t - shirt that had two sky blue striped running across the chest, you had a night sky black jeggins with mud brown boots (with black socks) to top the outfit off. You thought about how your twin sibling had an outfit that was almost identical to yours, not realising that you zoned out, you snapped out of your thoughts and looked at the small, round mirror that hung above the bathroom sink only to meet your groggy reflection, your hair was messy but that couldn't be helped your hair was always a bit messy, you had a blank expression on your face knowing that this day was your day off work so you were relieved, relief was something you hadn't felt in a while. You let a small smile spread across your face, you then let out a small sigh as you thought that maybe today will be better than those countless weeks of working in that shop.

About half an hour later you had gotten dressed and did your daily routine of brushing your hair and teeth and so on. You silently crept back in through the door of your bedroom to wake up your twin sibling, Frisk. You put your now folded pyjamas on your pillow and crept over to Frisk's bed to wake them up for breakfast, you did just that by poking their shoulder gently and whispering their name since they had their back turned to you.

Frisk sat up in their bed and rubbed their eyes sleepily, the eyes were one way to tell you and Frisk apart besides clothing and personalities.Your (e/c) eyes were always open a bit bigger than normal human beings and then Frisk's eyes looked like they're closed but their actually not, you then handed them their clothes for the day which was a long sleeved sky blue t - shirt with two violet stripes running across the chest of the t - shirt, dark blue jeggings with vibrant coloured runners (and of course white socks) to complete the outfit. They groggily took their clothes and went to change in the bathroom leaving their bed messy, you decided to be nice and make Frisk's bed since they were always kind to you no matter what so after you made Frisk's bed you walked out of your bedroom and raced down the mostly white hallway. You took one look at the stairs and thought 'I don't feel like taking the stairs today' so you took a small risk and jumped on the banister which you slid down on (and nearly fell off, don't try this at home). You then raced down the mostly white, tiled floor hall and into the kitchen to make breakfast for you and Frisk. You noticed the sink under the window was piled with dirty plates, cups, bowls and cutlery so you started to clean them as you absent mindedly stared at a mountain surrounded by a forest that you had a clear view of, everyone knew this mountain as Mt. Ebbot and those who climb the mountain are said to never return.

You remebered some lines an old friend of yours told you about 10 years ago. You remember him as clear as day but the only thing was you couldn't remember his name or his little brother's name but you remember as clear as day how you and Frisk met them.

You and Frisk were only two years old since you're twins and you were both playing together in a park while your mother was obviously exhausted so she accidentally fell asleep on a park bench, Frisk and yourself were playing hide and seek and it was your turn to hide so you ran far into the golden orchard behind you and went to find a thick tree to hide behind but the breeze pushed you and you fell over so your two year old self cried because you cut your knee. Soon your instincts were telling you to get up and get help so you leaned against a nearby tree to keep your balance but soon a little skeleton monster found you crying in the orchard and decided to help you stand which was nice of him. Even though you were tall for a two year old at the time, this little skeleton monster was a few centimetres taller than you at the time, he was wearing little red boots, jeans, a yellow coat and a red scarf. He introduced himself as The Great Papyrus so you introduced yourself shyly as (y/n) then he told you that you had a very nice name and started walking while you were still balancing against him so you had no choice but to go with Papyrus wherever he was going...

Sometime later Papyrus had managed to bring you through the orchard to the other side of the park and when you two had gotten there he looked around for someone but he soon spotted a bigger, taller skeleton wearing runners, the same coloured jeans as Papyrus, a plain white t - shirt and a light blue hoodie. The taller skeleton was watching a few kids playing on the swings, obviously thinking about something but once more Papyrus urged you along to the taller skeleton and you were nervous all of a sudden because you thought this skeleton looked kind of intimidating but you trusted Papyrus and let him bring you over to the taller skeleton. When you two were about 20 foot steps away from the taller skeleton Papyrus called out to him "Brother!" The skeleton wearing the blue hoodie looked over to see Papyrus balancing and urging your two year old self over to him. Instead the hoodie wearing skeleton came over to you two and spoke "is this a new friend Pap?" He spoke with such a calm and laid back tone while Papyrus spoke with a childish yet loud and clear voice "I found them in the orchard and they hurt their knee" Papyrus said pointing to your ripped pants and now slightly bleeding knee, you smiled at Papyrus for using the right terms for you, you were a they and so was Frisk you weren't a she or he and then you were at the same time. "C'mon" he said as he pointed to a bench that wasn't to far away so Papyrus made sure you made it to the bench safely without tripping or slipping, once you sat down on the bench with Papyrus to your right. The older skeleton bent down to examine your cut on your knee which was bleeding quite a bit now as you just realised how bad this hurts and you had gripped onto the edge of the bench.

You remember that you felt a weird thing touching directly where the cut was and your two year old mind soon realised that this was the older skeleton's hand, it felt weird. You remember seeing a strong green glow come from under his hand, your cut didn't hurt as much but you could still feel blood coming out. Whatever was happening your mind didn't understand the logic of the green magic, you just relaxed your tense body since you thought it was the right thing to do in this situation, then he spoke "your knee must hurt a skele-ton" he seemed to enjoy his pun while Papyrus seemed a mix of angry and annoyed, you decided to giggle a bit at the pun.

You remember the skeleton had healed your knee then they both brought you back to your worried mother and sibling and you were now friends with Papyrus, you remembered when you had to go home you didn't see them since that day where you tripped in the orchard. Not everything in life was perfect, soon after you met them a few weeks later came the war between humans and monsters where you father had died trying to protect humanity and monsters were sealed underground but shortly after that you got magic powers of your own while Frisk got a lot of determination as you two grew older, you always somehow had more determination than Frisk but you didn't know how. You has made a theory that maybe it had something to do with that skeleton healing you with magic but then tragedy struck again as you both turned 11 years old. Your mother went to work nearly every day to make sure you could live but after one year of working she fell ill with cancer and soon died so you packed a few things and ran away to an abandoned house beside Mt. Ebbot with Frisk. Nobody knew you two lived there so you didn't have to pay rent since you didn't use electricity and nobody noticed that you used water so you two were left alone in this house and you barely ate while Frisk ate a bit more than you but not by much since you and Frisk got small wages but you two somehow managed year after year and just to make life easier you didn't go to school but you knew all you needed to know for now, you could always study in the library anyway if you wanted to learn.

Fingers snapped in front of your face. You turned your attention to Frisk, the only human you didn't hate that was alive, they had a really puzzled expression on their face as they asked "how did you wash literal days worth of plates, bowls, cups and curlery in just the half hour I got dressed" you then noticed that all of the items were clean and drying off as you replied " I really don't know" you dried your hands and made Frisk a small breakfast but didn't bother making any for yourself since you thought it would save food and money despite your protesting stomach. You sat down on the couch and drifted off to a dreamless sleep, you had no plans for today and Frisk was safe but what you didn't know was that all of it was about to change very quickly...
