Cat decides to come with me and right as we're leaving, Anne appears behind us.
"Can I come with you guys?" The alcohol has made her nose and cheeks red. She's smiling and looks relaxed. She's hastily putting on a beanie and a scarf.
I look at Catherine who's already nodding her head.
"Sure"
We start walking back to our respective dorms in silence. Finally, Anne breaks it.
"I'm so cold." She shivers. The alcohol buzz must've worn off. She's wearing a big coat, a scarf and a beanie. The whole outfit makes her look even smaller than she is.
"You should've drank more" Cat says dryly, which is her way of messing around. I chuckle and Anne joins.
"I should've. The wine was good." She adds.
We walk a bit further until we reach the tree where Catherine and mine ways split. Usually after a night out, I stay at Cat's.
"Hey uh, I actually was planning on staying at Cat's place so.. our ways split here." I explain. Anne looks confused and a little... disappointed I think? But I can't tell for sure. Her breath is coming out in clouds due to the cold.
"Oh uh yeah, okay." She mumbles before turning around. I walk in Cat's direction. Once I'm close enough, she punches my arm hard.
"Yo what the fuck?" I yell in surprise. She looks at me sternly and sighs.
"Obviously something's going on with you and her. You should talk to her!" She demands, being the annoying best friend that she is.
"What? How do you even-"
"Don't start all that, just go." She says before turning around and walking away from me. What a rude woman.
I stand in the cold for a minute debating which girl to follow. Catherine is rude, but she doesn't need to go far to reach her place... whereas Anne is drunk, cold and has quite some walking to do. And Cat might've had a point that I should talk to Anne.
Before I change my mind, I jog over to where Anne disappeared 5 minutes ago. It doesn't take long for me to catch up with her. She's walking slow, making very small steps and I can see her small body shiver from where I stand a little behind her.
"Anne!" I yell. She turns around, face pale and visible shivering.
"Ruby?" She questions with rattling teeth. Poor girl.
"C'mon, we'll go to my dorm, it's closer." I say and gently grab her arm. She doesn't say anything and let's me lead her back to my place. We get there only a few minutes later and I open the door and let the poor girl in.
"Take off your coat and scarf and stuff, I'll get you some pyjamas and a big blanket." I promise her and she nods her head. I hand her a pair of joggings and a big band shirt. She goes to the bathroom and changes quickly. I lift up the heavy blanket so she can slide into my bed. She settles in and I sit next to her on top of the duvet. I got changed while she was in the bathroom so I'm in joggings and a big shirt as well.
"You okay?" I ask her. She nods with a smile.
"Thank-you, I was really cold." She breathes.
"I could tell." I smile. She keeps looking at me, as if she's searching my face for something. I want to talk to her about the other day but I don't know if now is the right time. I want her to feel comfortable here and not pressured.
"Are you still drunk?" I finally ask.
"No. I sobered up on our walk here and I wasn't that drunk in the first place." She says softly.
